One design element that the DJI Mic 2 retains from the original DJI Mic is the magnetic design of the transmitter, which allows for easy, quick, and secure attachment to clothing or other objects. The DJI Mic 2, however, has a larger 1.1-inch OLED touchscreen on the receiver combined with a precision dial, which makes it easier to monitor information like battery levels and audio volume, as well as to adjust gain. The original DJI Mic, on the other hand, features a smaller 0.95-inch OLED touchscreen and lacks the dial for setting adjustments.
In terms of visual appearance, the DJI Mic 2 also looks more stylish and modern with its sleek texture, while the DJI Mic features a rugged design that looks more industrial and utilitarian. The DJI Mic 2 even comes with a new Pearl White color option that gives it a more elegant look, while the DJI Mic is only available in black color option.

Both the DJI Mic 2 and the original DJI Mic are capable of recording high-quality omnidirectional audio, which means that they can capture sound from all directions, especially useful for capturing ambient sound or multiple sound sources at once. Another notable common feature is Safety Track, which records a second, lower-volume track alongside the main track as a backup in case the primary recording is distorted or unusable. This feature ensures that your recordings are reliable and of high quality, providing added peace of mind.

DJI Mic 2 has an advantage with its new Intelligent Noise Cancelling feature, which is designed to reduce background noise and improve sound clarity. The original DJI Mic doesn't offer this, but you can use the microphone windscreen accessory, which comes included with both the DJI Mic and DJI Mic 2, to physically reduce wind noise during outdoor recordings.
Both wireless microphones have 8 GB of internal storage, which is sufficient for an internal audio recording of up to 14 hours at 24-bit/48 kHz quality. However, the DJI Mic 2 has another advantage with its support for 32-bit float internal recording, which offers a high dynamic range that allows for greater flexibility in post-production editing.

The DJI Mic 2 retains the same audio transmission range as the original DJI Mic, which is up to 250 meters (820 ft.) in an open area with no obstacles. They also share similar connectivity options that include USB-C, Lightning, and 3.5mm TRS outputs, making them compatible with most cameras, smartphones, and computers.
DJI Mic 2, however, has some improvements. Its 3.5mm TRS cable connection now supports automatic power synchronization with the camera, allowing for a more streamlined operation.
Additionally, the DJI Mic 2 has a new feature that allows for Direct Bluetooth Connection with smartphones. That means, you can record high-quality audio wirelessly and directly to your smartphone or other Bluetooth-enabled devices, such as DJI Osmo Action 4 and DJI Osmo Pocket 3 cameras, without the need for a receiver and an adapter. However, take note that the Intelligent Noise Cancelling and Internal Recording features are not supported when the transmitter is connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth.

The DJI Mic 2 has a longer battery life compared to the original DJI Mic. The new microphone can operate continuously for up to 6 hours on a single charge, while the original DJI Mic can only last up to 5.5 hours for the transmitter and 5 hours for the receiver. This means that you can record for a longer period of time without worrying about the battery running out.
Both microphones come with a charging case that can recharge the transmitters and receiver simultaneously. The charging case for the DJI Mic 2 has a larger battery capacity and can extend the battery life for up to 18 hours. Meanwhile, the original DJI Mic's charging case can extend the battery life for only up to 15 hours.
