DJI OM 6

When first released in 2022, the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 and DJI Osmo Mobile SE respectively had a price tag of US$159 and US$109.

However, as of 2024, their prices have dropped slightly. The DJI Osmo Mobile 6 can now be found at US$149, while the DJI Osmo Mobile SE now retails at US$99. During seasonal promotions, you can get an even lower price.

If you're looking for an affordable option, the DJI Osmo Mobile SE is definitely the way to go. However, if you don’t mind putting in some extra investment for additional features and capabilities, the higher price of the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 may be worth it for some.

#2 Design & Control

DJI OM SE

The DJI Osmo Mobile SE vs 6 have similar form factors, with a foldable design that allows for easy storage and portability. For a gimbal, their weight is also relatively light, making them great for on-the-go filming.

However, the Osmo Mobile SE has a slightly more compact design compared to the Osmo Mobile 6. This is because the Osmo Mobile 6 has a built-in extension rod that can lengthen it by up to 215mm. The extension rod allows you to unlock more viewing angles, making it possible to capture high or low shots that you need to take.

DJI Osmo Mobile 6 vs SE have a similar control interface, featuring a status panel that displays modes and other information, an M button for quickly changing modes, a record button, a switch button, a joystick for controlling the camera movement, and a back trigger for quick access to various functions.

One advantage the Osmo Mobile 6 offers is the addition of a Side Wheel, which can be rotated to control zoom or focus easily. Meanwhile, the Osmo Mobile SE relies on the Zoom Slider on the left side of the handle for zooming in and out, which can sometimes be less precise and smooth compared to the Side Wheel on the Osmo Mobile 6.

One other obvious design difference is their colours. The Osmo Mobile 6 is available in Slate Gray and Platinum Gray, while the Osmo Mobile SE is available only in White.

The DJI Osmo Mobile 6 vs Osmo Mobile SE provide excellent stabilization capabilities for recording videos on a smartphone. With 3-axis stabilization, you can capture smooth and steady footage, even on the move.

Both gimbals initially came with DJI's ActiveTrack 5.0 subject tracking technology, but firmware updates now allow both the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 and DJI Osmo Mobile SE to utilize the latest ActiveTrack 6.0 technology.

ActiveTrack 6.0 allows subject tracking in complex scenarios, which reliably keeps the subject in the frame even when it is moving rapidly, partially obscured, or when there are other moving objects in the frame. It can even quickly resume tracking if the subject is briefly blocked and then re-enters the frame.

To use ActiveTrack 6.0, make sure the DJI Mimo App is upgraded to V1.9.0 or above. Note that some phone models don't support ActiveTrack 6.0, so you should check compatibility before purchasing. If ActiveTrack 6.0 is not supported, the less intelligent ActiveTrack 5.0 will automatically be available instead.

Some other features that both the Osmo Mobile 6 vs SE share in common include Gesture Control, ShotGuides to help users capture professional-looking videos, the ability to connect to the DJI Mimo app for advanced controls, and LightCut app for AI-powered editing tools.

If you have an Apple Watch, the watch can also turn into a remote control for both gimbals, allowing you to control the gimbal's angle and camera functions directly from your wrist.

The Osmo Mobile 6 sets itself apart with a new "Quick Launch" function that powers on the gimbal as soon as you unfold it, eliminating the need to wait for it to power on. Once you attach your smartphone, a notification will automatically pop up to launch the DJI Mimo app to start recording immediately, so there's no need for manual reconnection or fumbling with your phone to get started.

The caveat is that the Quick Launch feature is currently supported only on iPhones, so Android users will need to go through more hassles.

#4 Battery

DJI OM 6

The Osmo Mobile SE outperforms the Osmo Mobile 6 in terms of battery life. When fully charged, the Osmo Mobile SE can last up to 8 hours, whereas the Osmo Mobile 6 is limited to 6.5 hours. Although the runtime difference between the DJI Osmo SE vs 6 is not significant, it could make a big impact if you are filming for the entire day.

This difference in battery life is due to the difference in battery capacity, with the Osmo Mobile SE having a larger 2,600mAh battery compared to the 1,000mAh battery in the Osmo Mobile 6.

However, a smaller battery capacity on the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 results in a faster charging time, taking approximately 1.5 hours to fully charge, compared to the 2.2 hours required for the DJI Osmo Mobile SE.
