Dyson Gen5 Detect vs Absolute

Dyson Gen5 Detect is currently the latest, most advanced cordless vacuum from Dyson. The lineup includes a range of different variants including the Dyson Gen5 Detect and the Dyson Gen5 Detect Absolute. What are the differences between the two? Are they the same in terms of performance and features?

Let's compare Dyson Gen5 Detect vs Absolute to see how they differ!

Key Takeaways

The only difference between the two is the color and availability. Dyson Gen5 Detect Absolute comes in prussian blue/copper and can be purchased only on Dyson.com, while the Gen5 Detect comes in iron/purple and has a wider availability in the retail market. The performance and features of both vacuums are identical.

#1 Design & Display

Dyson Gen5 Detect vs Absolute

Dyson Gen5 Detect and Absolute are very identical in appearance, except for their color scheme. The Gen5 Detect comes in an iron-colored body and purple wand, while the Gen5 Detect Absolute version has a prussian blue body and copper wand. I personally feel that the color scheme of the Absolute variant looks more premium and elegant, but ultimately, the choice comes down to personal preference.

Other than the color, both vacuums have the same design elements, such as a single-button power control, a 0.77 L bin with a shoot-and-point emptying mechanism, and an LCD screen that can display the real-time level of debris being collected, the remaining runtime, the power mode, and more.

Both the Gen5 Detect and Gen5 Detect Absolute weigh 3.5 kg, which is quite heavy for a cordless vacuum. However, the weight is necessary to accommodate the powerful suction and advanced features of these Dyson models.

#2 Features

Dyson Gen5 Detect

Dyson Gen5 Detect and Gen5 Detect Absolute have no difference when it comes to features and cleaning performance. Powered by Dyson's latest generation Gen5 Hyperdymium motor, both vacuums deliver a powerful 280 AW suction, which is currently the highest suction power in Dyson's cordless vacuum lineup.

Radial Root Cyclone technology uses 14 scrolled cyclones to capture fine dust and microscopic particles from the airflow, while the HEPA filter traps 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, including allergens, pet dander, and even viruses. The piezo sensor counts and measures the size of each particle collected, then displays the real-time debris level on the LCD screen to guide the user on which area needs more cleaning.

Both vacuums come with two interchangeable cleaning heads: the de-tangling Digital Motorbar cleaner head that can adjust suction power based on the detected floor types, and the Fluffy Optic cleaner head that uses Dyson's precisely-angled illumination technology to reveal hidden dust and debris on hard floors. There are a few extra tools for versatile cleaning, like Hair Screw Tool, Combination Tool, and a built-in Dusting and Crevice Tool.

Dyson Gen5 Detect and Absolute offer 3 cleaning modes: Eco mode for maximum runtime, Auto mode for auto-adjustment of suction power based on the level of dirt collected, and Boost mode for maximum suction power at the expense of runtime. When a non-motorized attachment is used, the Medium mode will be offered instead of Auto mode, providing a balance of suction power and runtime.

#3 Battery

Dyson Gen5 Detect and Absolute offer the same maximum runtime of 70 minutes, thanks to their advanced 10-cell battery. The battery is a click-in model that is easily swappable with a spare battery, allowing for extra runtime for cleaning with less interruption. Charging is quite long at 4.5 hours, so buying a spare battery would be recommended for longer cleaning sessions.

#4 Price & Availability

Both vacuums have the same retail price of US$949.99, though you may find different pricing across retailers and during sales periods.

Dyson Gen5 Detect is available to purchase on Dyson.com and in various retail stores, including on Amazon.

Meanwhile, the Dyson Gen5 Detect Absolute is exclusively available for purchase directly from Dyson.com, so you can't find it in other retail stores or on Amazon.
