Ekrin B37 vs Hypervolt 2

Ekrin B37 (v2) and Hypervolt 2 are both the second-generation mid-range massage guns from their respective brands, with the Hypervolt 2 being slightly more affordable at US$199, while the Ekrin B37 is priced at US$229.99.

With a $30 price gap, how far are the differences in performance and features between the two massage guns? Is the more expensive Ekrin B37 worth the extra cost, or is the Hypervolt 2 the better value proposition? Let's find the answers to these questions!

Key Takeaways

Ekrin B37 is better in terms of core massage performance, offering higher stall force, wider speed range, and longer battery life. However, Hypervolt 2 has the advantage of offering smart features like a pressure sensor and guided massage routines via the Hyperice app.

Design & Controls

Ekrin B37

Ekrin B37 and Hypervolt 2 have a similar gun-like appearance, which is a typical design of most massage guns in the market. However, Ekrin B37 is set apart with its 15° angled handle, which is said to provide a more ergonomic multi-grip position for better reach and power.

However, when it comes to portability, the Hypervolt 2 has a slight advantage. It is slightly more compact at 6.7 x 7.3 x 2 inches and weighs 1.8 lbs, as compared to the Ekrin B37, which measures 9.5 x 7.4 x 2.4 inches and weighs 2.2 lbs.

The control interface is another area where the two massage guns differ. They both feature a button for power/speed as well as light indicators to display the current speed setting, but the Hypervolt 2 adds three additional pressure indicators below the button, which the Ekrin B37 doesn't offer.

Pressure indicators on the Hypervolt 2 are possible thanks to the pressure sensor integrated into the device. It gives visual feedback on how much pressure is being applied, so we can monitor and adjust how we apply force during the massage.

Attachments

Ekrin B37 offers 4 attachments, including the flat for overall use, bullet for pinpoint treatment, fork for the spine and neck, and round for larger muscle groups.

Meanwhile, Hypervolt 2 comes with 5 attachments. The four are similar to those offered by Ekrin, including flat, bullet, fork, and ball. The fifth additional attachment is the cushion, which is designed for sensitive areas.

If you opt for the Ekrin B37, an extra air cushion attachment is available to purchase separately at US$14.99.

Performance

Hypervolt 2

Ekrin B37 and Hypervolt 2 have the same 12 mm amplitude, which is the maximum depth of the massage stroke. For a massage gun, that is quite decent, but what gives amplitude a more noticeable impact is the stall force.

Ekrin B37 has twice the stall force of Hypervolt 2, measuring 56 lbs as compared to Hypervolt 2's 25 lbs of stall force. With that in mind, Ekrin B37 can deliver more powerful and deeper tissue massages compared to the Hypervolt 2.

On top of that, the Ekrin B37 comes with 5 built-in speed settings ranging from 1400, 1800, 2200, 2600, and 3200 RPM. Meanwhile, Hypervolt 2 is limited to just 3 built-in speed settings starting at 2200, 2750, to 3200 PPM. A wider speed range gives the Ekrin B37 more versatility to cater to different massage needs, whether you're looking for a gentler massage or a more intense one.

The amplitude, stall force, and speed settings all favor the Ekrin B37, so we can conclude it to be the better-performing massage gun with more power and versatility than the Hypervolt 2.

Additional Features

Hypervolt 2 can be connected to the Hyperice app via Bluetooth, which unlocks a range of additional features beyond what's available on the device itself.

The most useful feature of the app is perhaps the guided routines. We can select a routine based on our needs, and the app will walk us through the massage session step-by-step, controlling the massage gun's settings and setting up the timer automatically for us.

Ekrin B37 doesn't have a companion app, so don't expect any guided routines or smart features beyond what's available on the device itself. It comes with physical instructions though, where you can see the recommended duration and time for each muscle you want to target.

Battery & Charging

Hypervolt 2 offers a 3-hour runtime, which can be deemed quite good to last multiple days or even weeks, considering that you'll most likely use it no more than 20 minutes per day.

However, the Ekrin B37 is even more impressive with an 8-hour battery life, which is more than double the runtime of the Hypervolt 2.

Ekrin B37 also uses USB-C Power Delivery (PD) for charging, which supports fast charging and is compatible with most USB-C chargers, in case you lose or forget to bring the original charging cable.

Hypervolt 2, meanwhile, uses a proprietary wall charger, so you'll need to buy a replacement charger from Hyperice if you lose the original.

Final Thoughts

Ekrin B37 vs Hypervolt 2

Hypervolt 2

The Ekrin B37 appears to offer a more robust and versatile performance compared to the Hypervolt 2, with its higher stall force, wider speed range, and longer battery life.

However, the Hypervolt 2 has its own distinctive advantages with a pressure sensor feature and Bluetooth connectivity to the Hyperice app, which provides guided massage routines.

Therefore, the decision comes down to whether you prioritize core massage performance or additional smart features.
