A robot vacuum is exactly what it means: a small device that automatically cleans up after you. Once you've invested in one, they're inexpensive to operate and require only occasional attention from you to empty them as you would a regular vacuum. They're a terrific addition to your home and free up extra time to do what you enjoy most - unless your passion is vacuuming!
#1 Best Overall: iRobot Roomba j7+
The iRobot Roomba j7+ eliminates a weakness that other vacuum cleaners have: they sometimes get stuck, often caused by home wiring, a pile of clothes or other kinds of clutter. According to iRobot, the Roomba j7+ is smart enough to steer clear of areas it's supposed to, topping our list of best vacuum cleaners.
Sporting a sleek appearance, the iRobot Roomba j7+ is entirely in matte black except for the dark grey brushed metallic centre disk. It has a single button both for starting and stopping cleaning. What stands out is the dual rubber brush bars which accommodate different floor types and ensure hair (either human or pet) doesn't get tangled between them. The three-arm side brush is handy for cleaning crevices and edges in a room.
Reviewers were impressed by the iRobot Roomba j7+'s ability to manually adjust the suction level if areas of the floor are particularly dirty. Another cool feature is its ability to identify and avoid obstacles. When this happens, the Roomba j7+ doesn't stop at alerting you to the presence of these obstacles but goes a step further to how it should handle similar instances in future. In addition to room-specific cleaning, setting a regular cleaning schedule, and starting or cleaning based on the location of your smartphone, the Roomba j7+ also has Imprint Smart Mapping that triggers the robot mop to wash the floors after vacuuming.
The self-emptying Clean Base has two disposal bags, one of which is already installed in the Roomba j7+ and the other is tucked away under the lid. According to iRobot, each bag can hold up to 60 days of dirt before it needs to be replaced. While iRobot, doesn't state anything regarding how much it lasts in between charges, what's neat is that if it doesn't have sufficient battery to complete the job, it'll automatically return to the docking station to recharge just enough to continue cleaning.

#2 Best Vacuum/Mop Hybrid: Roborock S7
If you need a robot vacuum that's great at both vacuuming and mopping, the Roborock S7 is worth considering.
Clad in shiny white plastic with silver trim at the top, the S7 is the definition of classy. You can look forward to the curved light that zooms from left to right when in action. It shows white light in vacuum mode, whereas in spot mode, the light changes from green to blue and back again. One unique feature of the Roborock S7 is the sonic mopping system which offers multiple scrub settings made possible by the reusable microfiber pad and half-moon-shaped mopping plate. Even better, when it senses carpets, thanks to VibraRise Technology, the mop part automatically raises five millimetres so you don't get dampness all over your rug.
The Roborock S7 is the robot vacuum if you want something that makes the best use of simultaneous vacuuming and mopping. What reviewers discovered is that the mop catches minuscule crumbs that the vacuum didn't. Within the app, there's an option for Standard Mopping which mops and vacuums at the same time, or Deep Mopping which moves in a tighter pattern and covers the area you've outlined twice. You can take cleaning a step further and select your preferred Scrub Intensity from Close, Mild, Moderate or Intense.
The dust bad holds up to 120 days of dust before needing replacement. There are two ways to self-empty with the Roborock S7 - you could either let the vacuum automatically do so with each run or select the option to auto-empty within the app. Roborock offers four self-empty settings (smart, light, balanced and max) which adjust based on power.

#3 Best for Pet Hair: iRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot Roomba i7+ sets itself apart from other robot vacuums on our list because it picks up over 90 per cent of pet hair on both carpets and hard floors.
Dressed to impress, the Roomba i7+ is covered with expensive-looking black plastic with a charcoal grey top. There's also an LED which blinks different colours to alert you of its current state. Compared to previous models, the iRobot Roomba i7+ has rubber rollers with more defined grooves to aid in a better pickup and a dustbin attached to the vacuum for easier emptying either automatically or manually.
Two things make the iRobot Roomba i7+ a good boi. Firstly, is its cleaning speed which helps with quickly cleaning up a mess. According to reviewers, it zipped through their test room at an average time of 18 minutes. Next, is the methodical approach to cleaning that gets the job done. In addition to carefully navigating around chair legs, it also barely disturbed pet food bowls as it cleans around the house.
How automatic emptying works is via a vacuum port which immediately sucks up what's in the dust bin into the Clean Base. Dust and dander are then stored in disposable bags which can hold days' worth of debris. The iRobot app will alert you once a replacement is required.

#4 Best for Budget: Eufy RoboVac 11S
It can't be denied that one of the hardest areas to clean is under the furniture. At 2.85 inches, the Eufy RoboVac 11S gets the dust bunnies where other robot vacuums can't for an affordable price.
The reflective, black surface gives the robot vacuum a sleek and modern look. As mentioned, the RoboVac 11s has no problem scooting under low furniture. There are five cleaning modes available; Single Room cleans one room, Auto ensure the vacuum cleans from room to room, while Manual you can use directional buttons to direct where you want the vacuum to go. Then, there's Spot that's for cleaning specific areas and Edge which does perimeter wall cleaning. Additionally, the RoboVac 11s features three power levels - Standard, Boost IQ (a mix of Standard and Max) and Max.
When it comes to performance, the Eufy RoboVac 11S showcased adequate suction for picking up larger particles from a hard floor and medium-pile carpet. Finer dust such as cookies and flour was also no problem, yet reviewers observed it struggled a little bit picking those up from the carpet. Despite the RoboVac 11S's illogical cleaning pattern (as it sometimes travels in circles, and goes in straight lines), it still results in the entire room being cleaned even if it takes a while.
Although the dust box easily slides out of the back of the vacuum, unfortunately, there's no warning light available to indicate when it's full. Reviewers recommend that if the RoboVac 11S isn't picking up as well compared to usual, it's probably time to empty the dust box. Battery lasts around 100 minutes according to Eufy. That said, it takes around five hours to fully recharge from empty.

#5 Best for Functions: iRobot Roomba S9+
One of the best money can buy, the iRobot Roomba S9+ delivers what robot vacuums are supposed to and at the same time, is packed with plenty of niceties.
The top of the vacuum has a room confinement (RCON) sensor, which allows the iRobot Roomba S9+ to detect virtual walls. Additionally, the vacuum has a clutter sensor, camera and buttons to power the Roomba S9+ on as well as instruct it to clean. The iRobot Roomba S9+ also features an indicator that changes from red when the Roomba S9+ is charging, white when it is cleaning, and blue when it is connecting to Wi-Fi.
The Roomba S9+ is home to many improvements which include wider Dual Brushes and a brush with five angled arms to get into nooks and crannies. Other than physical improvements, many reviewers praised the vacuum for its performance. When it comes to cleaning efficiency, the iRobot Roomba S9+ delivers good dust pickup on both carpets and hard floors and is able to reach the corners around the room and wind itself around furniture well. The Power Boost function is especially useful as it automatically increases suction when it detects carpets.
The self-emptying function means the iRobot Roomba S9+ empties into the charging station, making cleaning effortless. The dust bag only needs to be emptied either monthly or bi-monthly depending on the frequency of use so it's highly recommended for those with mould spores or dust mite allergies. One thing to note is that the Roomba S9+ returns to its station if it's running low on battery and recharges just enough to continue its job.

Vacuuming is one of the greatest advantages of robot vacuums. They're small and don't take up a lot of space in your home, making them a great addition to your cleaning arsenal. Although they're not quite advanced enough to replace your trusty upright or cylinder vacuum just yet, we guess is that it won't be long before they can.
