Keurig K-Classic vs K-Elite

When it comes to single-serve coffee makers, Keurig is one of the most popular and recognizable brands on the market. The Keurig K-Classic and K-Elite are two of their top models, retailing at USD 149.99 and USD 189.99, respectively.

With a considerable price difference, they too have considerable differences in their features and capabilities. Let's take a closer look at how these two Keurig coffee makers compare!

Key Takeaways

The Keurig K-Elite offers premium advantages over the K-Classic: brushed metal design versus plastic, digital display, larger water reservoir (75oz vs 48oz), more brew sizes (5 vs 3), and exclusive features including strong brew, temperature adjustment, hot water dispensing, and iced coffee brewing capability.

Design

Keurig K-Elite

Both the Keurig K-Classic and K-Elite are full-sized coffee makers of similar size, but they have quite different styles and appearances. Actually, their names say it all.

The Keurig K-Classic has a sleek, classic design with a plastic body in black or rhubarb red.

Meanwhile, the Keurig K-Elite has a more premium look and feel with a sleek brushed metal exterior that comes in a few color options (silver, slate, and gold).

Both feature a removable drip tray that can accommodate a travel mug up to 7.2 inches tall for the K-Elite and 7.1 inches tall for the K-Classic. The water reservoirs are also removable for easy filling on both models.

Controls

The control panels differ quite a bit between the two. The K-Classic has simple button controls. Just a power button, an auto-off button, and three brew size buttons that you press to select your cup size. They're located on the top right side of the machine.

The K-Elite, on the other hand, features a full-featured control panel with a digital display, which is located on the top center of the machine. This includes buttons for brew size, strong brew, iced beverage, and more. We'll dive deeper into the function of these buttons soon in the next section.

In short, the controls of the K-Classic are simple and straightforward, while the K-Elite's more sophisticated control panel with a display provides more settings and customization.

Brewing Features

Keurig K-Classic

Keurig K-Elite has one advantage in terms of its water reservoir capacity, which is 75 oz. compared to only 48 oz. for the K-Classic. This gives the K-Elite more capacity before needing to be refilled. In simpler terms, that's 8 versus 6 cups before a refill.

In terms of cup size options, the K-Elite is again more versatile. It offers 5 brew size settings (4, 6, 8, 10, 12 oz), while the K-Classic has only 3 brew size options (6, 8, 10 oz).

A larger brew size means less "flavor punch" per cup, while a smaller size creates a stronger, more concentrated cup of coffee.

If you prefer the latter, you'll also be happy to know that the K-Elite has a dedicated "strong" button. This allows you to brew a more robust, stronger cup of coffee compared to the standard brew.

Next to the strong button on the K-Elite is a "hot water" button, which lets you easily dispense hot water for oatmeal, tea, or other uses.

On top of that, we can prepare iced beverages with the K-Elite. When we press the "iced" button, the machine will adjust the brew temperature. It initially brews at a higher temperature to extract maximum flavor, then reduces the temperature to prevent excessive ice melting in our cup.

One hidden feature of the K-Elite is its temperature control. There is no dedicated temperature button on the control panel, but by clicking the settings button 3 times, we can adjust the brewing temperature between 187°F and 192°F with the arrow buttons.

All of these customization features – strong brew, hot water on demand, temperature control, and iced beverages – are not present on the K-Classic.

However, when it comes to preparing a standard cup of hot coffee, both machines make the process equally easy and straightforward. They brew quickly in less than a minute and have an auto-off feature that will turn the machine off after a time to save energy.

Talking about auto-off, the K-Elite again adds an auto-on. Thanks to the digital display, we can set up a clock and schedule the machine to automatically turn on at a certain time.

Final Thoughts

Keurig K-Classic vs K-Elite

Keurig K-Classic

The Keurig K-Elite offers premium features over the more basic K-Classic. From its stylish brushed metal design to the advanced control panel and extra customization options, it provides a more personalized, premium coffee experience.

On the other hand, the K-Classic provides a simpler, more affordable solution for straightforward, no-fuss coffee brewing. It gets the job done without all the bells and whistles of the K-Elite.

So, in summary, choose the Keurig K-Classic for affordable, straightforward coffee brewing or the K-Elite for greater customization and a premium experience.
