By Naila Syifa
Updated May 2024
Blink and Ring are both Amazon-owned smart home security brands that offer a range of indoor and outdoor security cameras. Blink is the budget option, while Ring is the more premium choice.
In this article, we'll take a look at how Blink's latest 2024 model, the Blink Mini 2, stacks up against Ring's popular Stick Up Cam. Let's explore both cameras across the following 4 key consideration aspects and find out which one is the better fit for your home security needs and budget.
Key Takeaways
Blink Mini 2 has better value for money, offering superior FOV and local storage support at more than half the price of Ring Stick Up Cam. However, if you don't mind the premium price and monthly subscription fees, Ring Stick Up Cam has more advanced smart features and excels better in low-light conditions.

#1 Price
Ring Stick Up Cam
Blink is notorious for its budget-friendly pricing, and its 2024-released Mini 2 model is no exception. Blink Mini 2 retails for US$39.99, but it is also available in a US$49.98 bundle, which includes the Mini 2 camera and a Weather Resistant Adapter for outdoor installation.
Ring Stick Up Cam has a higher retail price of US$99.99. However, it is an old model released in 2019, so you may be able to find it on sale or at a discounted price.
#2 Design & Installation
Blink Mini 2
Blink Mini 2, as the name suggests, boasts a compact and discreet design that makes it easy to place anywhere. Ring Stick Up Cam is larger and bulkier, but it also supports flexible mounting and placement. Whether freestanding on a flat surface or securely mounted to a wall, both cameras provide flexible installation possibilities.
Both cameras are also water-resistant, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor uses. While Blink Mini 2 has an IP65 rating, Ring Stick Up Cam is rated IPX5. This means Blink Mini 2 has also been proven to be completely dust-tight, while the Ring Stick Up Cam is only protected against low-pressure water jets.
Blink Mini 2 is a plug-in camera that requires wired power. Ring Stick Up Cam comes in two versions, battery and plug-in, offering more flexibility in terms of power source and placement options.
#3 Video Quality
Ring Stick Up Cam
Both cameras have similar video quality with 1080p resolution, but when it comes to low-light performance, the Ring Stick Up Cam has a slight edge over the Blink Mini 2.
Ring Stick Up Cam is equipped with four infrared LEDs that provide clear color night vision footage. Blink Mini 2, relying on a single infrared LED and a spotlight, also offers night vision in color, but the quality is not as crisp and detailed as the Ring Stick Up Cam.
Blink Mini 2
However, Blink Mini 2 is superior when it comes to field of view. With 143° diagonal FOV, Blink Mini 2 covers a wider area compared to the 130° diagonal FOV of the Ring Stick Up Cam. This means, Blink Mini 2 can capture a larger portion of your home or property in a single frame.
If you want to overcome this FOV limitation that the Ring Stick Up Cam has, Ring offers a Pan-Tilt Mount accessory for $45, which upgrades the viewing angle to 360° pan and 117° tilt, offering complete coverage of the surrounding area. The Pan-Tilt Mount is also available as a bundle with the camera, priced at US$139.99 for the battery version.
#4 Smart Features
Ring Stick Up Cam
Both cameras share basic smart features that we would expect from a modern home security camera, such as live view, two-way audio, motion detection, and customizable motion zones, all of which can be accessed through their respective mobile apps.
As Amazon companies, both cameras also integrate seamlessly with Alexa voice commands and smart home ecosystems, so you can access features like hearing motion announcements, viewing the live feed through Alexa-enabled devices, and more.
Blink Mini 2 has an advantage with a built-in spotlight integrated into the front of the device, which can be triggered by motion detection or manually. Motion-activated spotlight helps illuminate the area when you approach your home or can also be useful in deterring potential intruders from entering your property.
Local Storage
Blink Mini 2
Blink Mini 2 supports local storage, a very valuable feature that the Ring Stick Up Cam is missing out on. Local storage enables access to video history without subscriptions, so you don't have to rely on a cloud storage plan that requires a monthly or annual fee. However, Blink also offers a paid cloud storage plan if that's what you prefer.
To enable local storage, Blink Mini 2 requires an additional device called Sync Module 2, which acts like a hub that connects the camera to the app. We simply need to insert a USB Flash Drive into Sync Module 2, then we'll be able to access motion clips via the Blink App.
Note that Blink only stores motion clips, which are triggered by the camera's motion detection, not continuous recording. That means, when the camera doesn't detect motion, it won't store any footage that we can review later.
Ring Stick Up Cam
Ring Stick Up Cam doesn't support local storage. A subscription to a Ring Protect Plan is required to access the cloud storage feature, which allows us to review and share recorded footage from the camera. The footage is stored for up to 180 days, which is longer than Blink's paid cloud storage which retains footage for up to 60 days.
Unfortunately, similar to Blink Mini 2, Ring Stick Up Cam also doesn't support 24/7 continuous local recording. If you're interested in this feature, consider the Wyze Cam v4.

Subscription Features
Ring Stick Up Cam
Subscription plans for both cameras unlock a set of additional smart features that can be valuable for enhanced home security and monitoring, but they come with different features and pricing.
The Basic plan for Ring Protect costs US$4.99 per month and provides 180 days of cloud video history, snapshot capture, person and package detection, rich notifications, and home and away modes.
Blink Basic Plan costs US$3 per month and provides 60 days of cloud video history, extended live view, photo capture, and person detection.
In sum, Ring Stick Up Cam has a slightly more expensive monthly subscription fee, but it provides a longer video history retention period and more advanced smart features compared to Blink Mini 2's subscription plan.

Final Thoughts
Blink Mini 2
The choice between the Blink Mini 2 and the Ring Stick Up Cam ultimately comes down to your specific needs and budget. If you're looking for a more affordable option with excellent value for money in the long term, the Blink Mini 2 is a strong contender, offering a wide field of view, local storage support, and a built-in spotlight.
On the other hand, if you're willing to invest in a premium camera and don't mind the monthly subscription fees, the Ring Stick Up Cam provides more advanced smart features and better low-light performance.
