The Theragun Prime is generally considered as the most basic and staple model in the original Theragun series. It is often compared to the Theragun Elite, which is the next step up in the Theragun range.

We’ll dive into our Theragun Prime vs Theragun Elite review and compare them on price, performance, and design to figure out which is better for you.

The Theragun Prime is priced at US$299, while the Theragun Elite is slightly more expensive at US$399. The US$100 price difference is understandable, as the Elite comes with additional hardware features.

#2 Power & Performance

Both the Theragun Elite and Theragun Prime have similar amplitudes of 16mm, allowing them to reach deep into your muscles and provide effective relief for tension and soreness. Both devices can also reach speeds of up to 2,400 PPM.

Additionally, they offer built-in Bluetooth connectivity, which enables you to connect to the Therabody app for guided routines and more precise speed control. Using the app, you can access personalised routines for recovery, as well as programs designed to aid with sleep and stress. Moreover, the app provides guidance to help alleviate pain symptoms and treat specific ailments, such as tennis elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome, among others.

The main difference in performance between the two devices is their power. While the Theragun Elite has a higher stall force of 40 lbs, the Theragun Prime sits at 30 lbs. However, it is important to note that the force difference may not always be noticeable for most people.

In terms of design, the Theragun Elite differs from the Theragun Prime in a few key ways. Visually, it features an OLED screen rather than an LED indicator. This screen displays the device's speed and also includes a force meter to indicate the depth of the massage.

The next difference is with the addition of another attachment. The Theragun Prime comes with 4 basic attachments: Standard Ball, Dampener, Thumb & Cone. The Theragun Elite, on the other hand, has five attachments, with the Wedge being the additional piece. The Wedge is primarily used for "scraping" or "flushing" to increase blood flow in the shoulder blades or IT bands. However, these attachments are also available separately, so they should not be the primary factor when deciding which Theragun to purchase.

The last difference between the Theragun Elite and the Prime is that the Elite comes with a protective carrying case, while the Prime only includes a simple carrying pouch. If you plan to bring the device along to key events and want to ensure its protection, the Elite's case is definitely the way to go.

Both the Theragun Elite and Theragun Prime have similar battery lives of 120 minutes, which is generally more than enough for a couple of days of use. It is important to note, however, that the battery life may vary depending on the intensity of use and the types of activities for which the devices are used.

Final Thoughts

The key selling point of the Theragun Elite is its quietness and is a mid-entry option for users who would like to get a little more in their massage gun. When compared to the Prime, you get a quieter device, a greater stall force, an OLED screen and one more attachment with the Elite.

If none of these features are enticing for you, stick with the Theragun Prime and save a couple more dollars that could go towards your next massage gun upgrade.
