Updated January 2025
The Amazfit GTS 4 and GTR 4 are like siblings with different styles, catering to different aesthetic preferences. However, design is not the only thing that sets these two smartwatches apart. In this article, we'll explore their differences across various key features and capabilities to help you determine which one is the better fit for your needs.
Key Takeaways
The Amazfit GTR 4 and GTS 4 differ primarily in design (round vs. rectangular) and overall aesthetic (classic sporty vs sleek modern). The GTR 4 is larger and packs more power, while the GTS 4 is smaller and suits those with smaller wrists. While sharing core health tracking features, the GTR 4 currently leads with Zepp OS 3.5 updates that bring new features like Zepp Coach, Zepp Flow, readiness score, and more. GTS 4 has not yet received the update, so the GTR 4 has the overall edge for now.

Design & Display
Amazfit GTS 4
Let's start with the very obvious differences between the two. The R in GTR stands for Round, while the S in GTS stands for Square. So, even without looking at them, we can already tell that the GTR 4 has a round-shaped face, while the GTS 4 has a square one — well it's a rectangle, actually.
The GTR 4's design was also inspired by a sports car, so it looks more masculine and appeals specifically to those who prefer a sporty, classic timepiece aesthetic. Meanwhile, the GTS 4 has a more sleek and fashionable appearance, making it a better fit for those with a more modern style preference.
A rectangular watch case gives more room for the display, allowing for a larger screen size. That's why the GTS 4 boasts a larger 1.75-inch AMOLED screen compared to the 1.43-inch AMOLED screen of the GTR 4, despite its smaller overall size.
Measuring 42.7 x 36.5 x 9.9 mm in dimensions, the GTS 4 is more compact and lightweight than the GTR 4, which has a more bulky appearance measuring 46 x 46 x 10.6 mm. This makes the GTS 4 suit smaller wrists better than the GTR 4.
Health & Fitness Features
Amazfit GTR 4
The Amazfit GTS 4 and GTR 4 feature the very same BioTracker 4.0 health data sensor, so the health and fitness tracking capabilities are largely identical between the two models. You can track heart rate, blood oxygen levels, stress levels, sleep quality, and menstrual cycles on both watches.
For fitness, you can choose from over 150 sports modes and get performance data like VO2 max, recovery time, training load, and training effect. For running, the Virtual Pacer allows you to race against your past performance while for strength training, both watches can recognize 25 strength exercises and count the reps and rest time between sets for you.
Both watches also use dual-band positioning using six different satellite positioning systems for accurate tracking. You can import a route file and then navigate in real-time.
The health and fitness features on both smartwatches were largely the same, until the GTR 4 got an update to Zepp OS 3.5 on August 2024. This update brings new features like the AI-powered Zepp Coach, readiness score, HRV measurement, and offline maps for helping with navigation during outdoor activities.
The GTS 4 has not yet received a similar update, so the GTR 4 for now has some edges in terms of health and fitness features. However, it is likely that Amazfit will roll out a similar update for the GTS 4 in the near future.
Smartwatch Features
Amazfit GTS 4
Both the Amazfit GTS 4 and GTR 4 feature a built-in speaker and microphone, so they can answer Bluetooth phone calls right from the wrist, play music without the need for a connected smartphone, and access voice assistants.
On both watches, you can either use the built-in Alexa or offline voice assistant for voice commands, but the GTR 4, thanks to the Zepp OS 3.5 update, also now supports Zepp Flow. It is an AI assistant powered by OpenAI's GPT-4o, which can understand natural language and perform various tasks. The GTS 4 doesn't support Zepp Flow yet but may later support it if it gets the Zepp OS 3.5 update.
Other smartwatch functionality are similar between the two, including phone notifications, phone music control, weather information, event reminders, and more.
Battery Life
Amazfit GTR 4
We talked about how the Amazfit GTS 4 is smaller, so it makes sense that it packs a smaller battery capacity compared to the GTR 4. Its 300 mAh battery can last for up to 8 days with typical usage, 4 days with heavy usage, or 16 days in battery-saver mode.
Meanwhile, the GTR 4 packs more power with a 475 mAh battery that can last up to 14 days with typical usage, 7 days with heavy usage, or 24 days in battery-saver mode. This makes the GTR 4 the better choice for those who want longer battery life.

Final Thoughts
Amazfit GTS 4
It is true that the main distinction of both smartwatches is their design, with the GTS 4 appealing to those who prefer a more modern and fashionable look, while the GTR 4 caters to those seeking a classic and sporty aesthetic.
However, other aspects are also worth considering. The GTR 4 has superior battery life and offers additional features after the Zepp OS 3.5 update, including Zepp Coach, Zepp Flow, readiness score, and more. The GTS 4 may receive similar updates in the future, but for now, the GTR 4 has an edge in terms of overall capabilities.
