The Amazfit Active and Amazfit Balance are two popular smartwatch models from the Amazfit brand that offer a range of health and fitness tracking features without missing the smart functionalities that users expect from a modern smartwatch. With around a USD 90 price gap between the two models, which smartwatch is a better value for your lifestyle?
Key Takeaways
The Amazfit Balance offers a classic round design with advanced features like a BIA sensor, strength exercise recognition, and Zepp Pay, while the Active sports a rectangular design and female-focused features with Wild.AI integration. Core capabilities like health monitoring, Bluetooth calling, and workout data tracking are similar between the two models.

Design & Display
Amazfit Active
The Amazfit Active boasts a rectangular watch case measuring 42.3 x 35.9 x 10.7 mm, which houses a wide 1.75-inch AMOLED display with 341 PPI resolution.
The Amazfit Balance has a smaller 1.5-inch AMOLED with 323 PPI resolution, but this is not because the watch is smaller in size, as the Balance has a larger 46 mm case. The smaller screen is due to its rounded design instead of rectangular, causing it to have a smaller display area overall.
The round-shaped Amazfit Balance has a more classic watch aesthetic, especially as it adds a classic crown for navigation besides the button and touch screen. The Amazfit Active has no navigation crown, and its rectangular shape gives it a more modern and sporty look.
It ultimately comes down to personal preference on which design and display specs you find more appealing. Just note that both watches are made of aluminum alloy with the same 5 ATM water resistance, so they offer similar levels of durability and water protection.
I personally like the circular, classic design of the Amazfit Balance, but as a petite woman, I find its size to be an unfortunate downside. The watch could look too large on smaller wrists. I wish they had a smaller 40 mm or 41 mm version that other smartwatch brands usually offer.
Health & Fitness Features
Amazfit Balance
While both watches share essential health monitoring features, including heart rate, spO₂, sleep, and stress monitoring, only the Amazfit Balance features a Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) Sensor, which can provide body composition measurement data such as body fat percentage, muscle mass, bone mass, protein, and more.
The Amazfit Balance also excels more in fitness tracking, offering 156 sports modes compared to the Amazfit Active with just 129 sports modes. Some examples of the additional sports modes on the Amazfit Balance include trail running, mountain biking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, snowboarding, triathlon, and multisport.
On top of that, the Amazfit Balance can auto-detect 25 types of strength exercises, track reps and rest time between sets, and display which muscle group you targeted on the Zepp App after the workout.
Amazfit Active
The Amazfit Active lacks such a strength recognition feature, but it instead offers Wild.AI support. Wild.AI is a platform designed to help female athletes train better by providing personalized training, nutrition plans, and recovery recommendations based on menstrual cycle and hormone levels.
The Amazfit Balance only goes as far as tracking and predicting women's menstrual cycle, so the Active has a clear edge in women-specific health and fitness features.
However, both watches equally support Zepp Coach AI fitness coach, readiness score, PeakBeats workout status, third-party fitness app integration, route file import, and real-time navigation, so they are equally capable in terms of core fitness capabilities.
Smartwatch Features
Amazfit Balance
Both the Amazfit Active and Balance are equipped with a built-in speaker and microphone, so they equally support on-wrist Bluetooth calls, music playback, and voice assistant via the built-in Alexa or the integrated Zepp Flow AI assistant.
The Amazfit Balance also adds Offline Voice Assistant, which means you can still perform basic voice controls even when your smartphone is not connected, such as opening a health feature or a sports mode.
The Amazfit Balance further differentiates itself with Zepp Pay, a contactless payment feature that allows you to make payments directly from your watch. The Active has no NFC, so Zepp Pay is not supported.
Most other daily smart features are shared between the two watches, including smartphone notifications, weather, event reminders, morning updates, and iOS camera control.
Battery Life
Amazfit Active
The Amazfit Balance packs a 475 mAh battery, which is a considerable 58% increase over the 300 mAh battery in the Amazfit Active. Despite so, both smartwatches have a similar 14-day battery life in typical usage.
When using the battery-saver mode, the Amazfit Active even beats the Amazfit Balance, lasting up to 30 days versus just 25 days on the Amazfit Balance.
Therefore, the larger battery capacity provided by the Amazfit Balance should not be seen as a significant advantage over the Amazfit Active in terms of battery life. It is just a way to accommodate the additional features and sensors on the Amazfit Balance without compromising its overall battery performance.
Amazfit Active vs Balance
Final Thoughts
Amazfit Balance
The Amazfit Balance is the superior option when it comes to advanced health and fitness tracking capabilities, as well as additional smartwatch features like offline voice control and contactless payments. Its classic watch design also gives it a more premium aesthetic appeal, though its large size may not suit everyone.
While the Amazfit Active lacks some of the more advanced features found on the Balance, it still provides a solid set of health and fitness tracking capabilities at a more affordable price point. It also comes in a smaller, women-friendly size and a unique women-centric Wild.AI integration, making it a compelling choice for female users.
