Updated January 2025
Amazfit GTR 4 is the latest model in the GTR lineup, offering some improvements over its predecessor GTR 3. What are they and is it worth upgrading? Let's compare both fitness-focused smartwatches to uncover the key similarities and differences, so you can decide whether to upgrade to the GTR 4 or stick with the GTR 3.
Key Takeaways
The Amazfit GTR 4 offers notable upgrades including a sportier design, larger display, improved fitness tracking with strength training recognition, plus Bluetooth calling capabilities and AI features like Zepp Coach and Zep Flow. However, it comes with reduced battery life compared to the GTR 3's impressive 21-day runtime.

Design & Display
Amazfit GTR 3
Placing both smartwatches side by side, one can easily tell that the GTR 4 looks much more sporty and masculine. In fact, the company said the design of the GTR 4 was inspired by sports cars. Even the navigation crown was specially made with tire tread-like grooves, evoking the imagery of a sports car in such detail!
The GTR 4 also offers three variants, including the sporty Superspeed Black with fluoroelastomer strap, the formal Vintage Brown Leather with leather strap, and the athleisure Racetrack Gray with nylon strap. The various options allow you to choose one that best suits your personal style.
Meanwhile, the Amazfit GTR 3 only comes in two color variants, the Thunder Black and Moonlight Grey, which all have the same fluoroelastomer strap. The GTR 3 also looks more sleek in its overall appearance, perhaps because of its bezel-less design.
In terms of display, the GTR 4 also introduces some improvements. It is larger at 1.43-inch (versus 1.39-inch on the GTR 3) with a higher 466 x 466 pixels resolution (versus 454 x 454 pixels on the GTR 3). A larger display is accommodated by the GTR 4's larger 46 mm case size compared to the 45.8 mm case of the GTR 3. These differences are not so significant, but they're still technical upgrades we want you to note.
Health & Fitness Features
Amazfit GTR 4
Both smartwatches have over 150 sports modes, so they can cater to a wide range of fitness activities. One activity profile that the newer GTR 4 adds is Golf Swing, which can track your golf swing and provide insights to improve your game, which is useful if you are a golf enthusiast.
Other sports modes are similar between the two models, but for strength exercises, the GTR 4 has one new capability. It can recognize 25 types of strength exercises, detect your reps and rest time between sets, and then display the muscle group you worked on after the exercise on the Zepp App.
On top of that, the GTR 4 supports Zepp Coach, an AI-powered fitness coach that can provide personalized workout plans and guidance to help you reach your fitness goals.
Besides those mentioned, the other key health and fitness features are largely similar between the two watches, including Virtual Pacer, PeakBeats Workout Status, heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen monitoring, stress tracking, sleep quality tracking, menstrual cycle tracking, PAI health assessment system, and breathing exercise.
Smartwatch Features
Amazfit GTR 3
The Amazfit GTR 4 retains the built-in microphone already present on the GTR 3, allowing you to use voice commands with the built-in Alexa and offline voice assistant. However, voice commands on the GTR 4 can also be used with Zepp Flow, an AI assistant powered by OpenAI's GPT-4o that can understand natural language. The GTR 3 doesn't support Zepp Flow, so its voice capabilities are more limited.
Besides a microphone, the Amazfit GTR 4 also features a built-in speaker, allowing you to answer Bluetooth calls and play music directly on your wrist. These are not possible on the GTR 3
Other basic smartwatch features like phone notifications, weather forecasts, alarm clocks, to-do lists, and Find My Phone are available on both models..
Battery Life
Amazfit GTR 4
The Amazfit GTR 4 has a larger 475 mAh battery capacity compared to the 450 mAh battery in the GTR 3, but it unfortunately has a shorter battery life of up to 14 days in typical usage, versus up to 21 days for the GTR 3.
In battery saver mode, the GTR 3 can last for up to 35 days, while the GTR 4 just offers up to 24 days of runtime. This decrease in battery life, despite the larger battery capacity, may be due to the addition of more power-hungry features on the GTR 4.

Final Thoughts
Amazfit GTR 3
The Amazfit GTR 4 offers several notable improvements over its predecessor, the GTR 3. While the design and display have been refined, the key differences lie in the enhanced health and fitness tracking capabilities. The addition of the Golf Swing activity mode and the ability to recognize and track strength exercises sets the GTR 4 apart.
Furthermore, the integration of the Zepp Coach feature provides personalized workout guidance, while Zepp Flow offers more advanced voice control capabilities. On-wrist Bluetooth calling is also now possible, making the GTR 4 a well-rounded companion for everyday use. However, these new capabilities come at the cost of reduced battery life compared to the GTR 3.
