Updated November 2024
The Tineco Pure One S series and The Dyson V series offer a range of high-performance cordless vacuums that cater to different budgets and cleaning needs. How do their twelfth generation, the Tineco S12 and the Dyson V12, compare? Let's examine both models across a few key aspects!
Key Takeaways
Tineco S12 is smarter and suits larger houses, while the Dyson V12 has superior cleaning performance for smaller spaces. This is because the Tineco S12 offers a larger bin, manual suction control, and app connectivity, while the Dyson V12 boasts more powerful suction, advanced filtration, and two cleaner head options.

Design & Display
Tineco Pure One S12
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim, as the name suggests, has a slim appearance thanks to its in-line design configuration that places the motor, bin, and cyclones in a straight line. It is the lightest cordless vacuum from Dyson, coming in at just 2.2 kg as compared to the Tineco S12 at 2.88 kg.
However, this lightweight design comes at the cost of a smaller dust bin, offering almost half the capacity of the Tineco S12's bin. Tineco S12 offers 0.6 L while the Dyson V12 Detect Slim has a mere 0.35 L dust bin capacity.
Both cordless vacuums feature a digital display, showing the battery status, cleaning mode, and maintenance alerts. However, each model adds its own unique features to the display.
Tineco S12 adds a power bar that displays real-time suction power levels and a dust monitoring loop that indicates the amount of dust detected on the floor. The ring shines red when the dust level is high, indicating the need for more thorough cleaning, and turns blue when the floor is clean.
Dyson V12 Detect Slim
Instead of detecting what's on the floor, the Dyson V12 displays what's been picked up inside the vacuum. It counts the number of particles detected and categorizes them into different sizes.
You can identify dirty areas when the particle count increases significantly, and you can tell that the area has been cleaned thoroughly when the particle count is no longer increasing.
Another difference is that the Tineco S12 shows battery level in percentage on its LED screen, while the Dyson V12 shows the remaining runtime in minutes and seconds on its LCD. This comes down to user preferences, but I think the runtime display on the Dyson V12 makes it easier to gauge the remaining battery life.
Features
Cleaner Heads
Dyson V12 Detect Slim
Dyson V12 comes with two cleaner heads, the Fluffy Optic and Motorbar. The Fluffy Optic cleaner head uses laser light to illuminate dust particles on hard floors, while the Motorbar cleaner head is optimized to pick up and de-tangle hair on all floor types.
Tineco S12 only offers one cleaner head known as the Direct Drive LED Multi-Tasker Power Brush. It has a built-in high-torque motor for efficient cleaning on both hard floors and carpets. It also features LED headlights, which illuminate the cleaning path similar to the Dyson V12 Fluffy Optic cleaner head.
Cleaning Modes
Tineco Pure One S12
Both vacuums have 3 power modes, including Manual, Auto, and Max for the Tineco S12 and Eco, Auto/Medium, and Boost for the Dyson V12.
Max mode on the Tineco S12 and Boost mode Dyson V12 are the same in that they use the highest suction power for tackling tougher dirt, but they differ in their suction power level. The Dyson V12 is slightly more powerful, delivering up to 150 AW of suction compared to the Tineco S12's 145 W.
Auto modes on both vacuums are also similar in that they adjust the suction power dynamically based on the detected dirt level, but the mechanism is different.
Tineco S12 uses the iLoop smart sensor to determine the dirt level on the floor, while the Dyson V12 relies on its onboard piezo sensor to detect the amount of particles picked up, which then indicates the dirt level.
Medium mode replaces the Auto mode on the Dyson V12 when non-powered tools, like a crevice tool, are attached. Eco mode provides the lowest suction power for extended battery runtime.
Manual mode, exclusively available in the Tineco S12, allows the user to adjust the suction power manually. A power slider is built near the handle, where we can easily swipe to increase or decrease the suction power as needed. The Dyson V12 has no such manual control over the suction power.
Filtration
Tineco Pure One S12
When it comes to the filtration system, the Dyson V12 is more advanced. Its 5-stage whole-machine HEPA filtration uses 11 Root Cyclone, capturing 99.99% of particles as small as 0.3 microns and ensuring cleaner air is exhausted back into the room.
Tineco S12, on the other hand, uses a 4-stage filtration system consisting of a HEPA filter, pre-filter, mesh filter, and cyclone system. Thankfully, it has a Smart Self-Cleaning feature, which automatically cleans the filters by itself to maintain peak suction power.
In-App Features
Tineco S12 has an edge with its connectivity to the Tineco app, allowing users to monitor real-time cleaning performance, adjust settings, receive maintenance alerts, and more.
Dyson V12 can't connect to the MyDyson app, so in-app features are limited to how-to content and product support.
Battery
Dyson V12 Detect Slim
Both cordless vacuums have removable batteries, which means you can purchase additional batteries and swap them out for extended runtime.
Dyson V12 has a longer runtime per battery, offering up to 60 minutes on a single charge with 3.5 hours of charging time. In comparison, the Tineco S12 can last for up to 50 minutes and requires 4 hours to fully recharge.

Final Thoughts
Tineco Pure One S12
The Tineco S12 and Dyson V12 are both impressive cordless vacuums, but they each have their own unique strengths.
Tineco S12's highlights include its larger dust bin capacity, manual suction control, and smart app connectivity, while the Dyson V12 excels in its lightweight design, more powerful suction, advanced filtration system, and longer battery runtime. Consider which combination of features is more important to you and your cleaning needs when making the decision.
