The 40mm size features a 1.31-inch Super AMOLED display with 432 x 432 pixels resolution, while the 44mm size has a 1.47-inch Super AMOLED display with a higher 480 x 480 pixels resolution, more similar to the Amazfit T-Rex 3's display.
Judging solely by appearance, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 looks more masculine with a rugged body like a typical adventure smartwatch, while the Galaxy Watch 7 has a more unisex, casual design. However, both are equally robust with military-grade durability.
It's just that the T-Rex 3 has a better water resistance rating. At 10 ATM, it can withstand water pressure up to 100 meters, while the Galaxy Watch 7 can only withstand water pressure up to 50 meters with its 5 ATM rating. The T-Rex 3 is also dive-rated to 147 feet, while the Galaxy Watch 7 is not. That being said, the Galaxy Watch 7 can handle shallow-water activities like swimming and snorkeling while the T-Rex 3 goes further with diving capabilities.

However, only the Amazfit T-Rex 3 can automatically detect 25 types of strength exercises, automatically counting reps and sets so you don't have to manually fiddle with the watch. For running, the T-Rex 3 also offers more comprehensive performance metrics with running power analysis, which the Galaxy Watch 7 lacks.
The Amazfit T-Rex 3's superiority in fitness and training features is also visible with its Zepp Coach feature. It is an AI-powered virtual coach that generates tailored workout plans based on your fitness level, goals, and available training day, so you can optimize your training more effectively.
Galaxy Watch 7
The Galaxy AI on the Galaxy Watch 7 doesn't offer such coaching features. It instead gives Wellness Tips for personalized wellness insights and an Energy Score for physical readiness. However, Galaxy AI features are only supported on high-end Galaxy smartphones and will cost a subscription fee to use.
Meanwhile, the Readiness Score on the Amazfit T-Rex 3, which is similar to the Galaxy AI-powered Energy Score, is available for free and widely compatible with any Android and iOS devices.
Despite lacking in the fitness and training department, the Galaxy Watch 7 outshines the Amazfit T-Rex 3 when it comes to health and wellness features. With a BIA sensor, the Galaxy Watch 7 can measure body composition like body fat, muscle, and water. It can also detect signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib) with the ECG feature and signs of sleep apnea with the sleep apnea detection feature. These aren't offered by the Amazfit T-Rex 3.
However, basic health monitoring capabilities like heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen saturation, stress levels, and sleep quality are present on both smartwatches.

The Amazfit T-Rex 3 and Galaxy Watch 7 share a range of common smartwatch functionality, including NFC for mobile payment, phone notifications, phone music control, and phone camera control. However, camera control on the Amazfit T-Rex 3 only supports iOS devices while camera control on the Galaxy Watch 7 only works with high-end Galaxy smartphones, like the Galaxy S Series, Z Series, and Note series.
Another similar feature is the voice assistant, though the supported voice assistants differ. The Galaxy Watch 7 supports Bixby, Google Assistant, and Alexa, while the Amazfit T-Rex 3 uses the built-in Zepp Flow AI assistant for voice commands. Zepp Flow is backed by OpenAI's GPT-4o and can understand natural language to perform various tasks, so it is not losing to the already popular voice assistant platforms offered by the Galaxy Watch 7.
One thing that the Amazfit T-Rex 3 is losing to the Galaxy Watch 7 is a speaker. Without a speaker, it cannot take/make calls or play music directly from the watch. The Galaxy Watch 7 features both a microphone and a speaker, so it can do these tasks. On-wrist calls can also be made without a nearby smartphone if you opt for the Galaxy Watch 7 with LTE connectivity.

The Amazfit T-Rex 3 has universal compatibility with iOS and Android devices, so it can be paired with any smartphone regardless of the operating system.
In contrast, the Galaxy Watch 7 is not compatible with iOS. It only supports Android phones, but works best with Samsung Galaxy phones. This is because Galaxy AI features are supported on certain Galaxy smartphones, particularly the high-end models, such as the Galaxy S23/S24 Series, Galaxy Z Flip5/6 Series, and Galaxy Z Fold5/6 Series.

The longest battery life the Galaxy Watch 7 can offer is 100 hours (around 4 days), which is achieved in the power-saving mode. A normal use scenario will give you up to 60 hours, so it is very inferior to the Amazfit T-Rex 3 in terms of battery life.

I think the Amazfit T-Rex 3 offers better value for money overall, while the Galaxy Watch 7 is particularly appealing for users with high-end Galaxy smartphones.
