Updated October 2024

Theragun Prime Plus and Theragun PRO are some of the high-quality percussive massage guns on the market. While both offer powerful deep-tissue massage capabilities, there are some key differences between the two models. Let's examine the four key aspects that distinguish the Theragun Prime Plus from the Theragun PRO!
Key Takeaways
Theragun PRO's strengths lie in its higher stall force, an OLED screen with built-in visually-guided routines, and more attachments. Theragun Prime Plus is the more affordable option, coming in a simple design but with multi-therapy capabilities, including the included heat therapy and optional cold and vibration therapy.

#1 Price

Theragun PRO (5th Gen)
Theragun Prime Plus is not cheap at US$399, but the Theragun PRO (5th Gen) is even more expensive at US$599. If you're on a budget, you may also want to consider the Theragun PRO (4th Gen), which is currently still available for a cheaper price of US$499.

#2 Design

Theragun Prime Plus
Theragun Prime Plus has a more minimalistic design with a simple control interface, featuring just buttons and LED indicators to control the power, speed settings, and heat levels.
Meanwhile, Theragun PRO has a more premium design with an advanced OLED screen for displaying a wider range of information and controls, as well as a rotating arm that can be adjusted to four different positions. These design elements make the Theragun PRO a more user-friendly option.
What gives the Prime Plus an advantage is its lightweight and durable build. The device weighs only 0.88 kg – as compared to the PRO at 1.25 kg – and is made of impact-resistant materials that can withstand drops and scratches. In addition, the grip on the Prime Plus is textured for non-slip handling.

Theragun PRO (5th Gen)
In terms of attachment heads, Theragun PRO again has the advantage. It offers 6 attachments – Standard Ball, Dampener, Wedge, Thumb, Supersoft, and Micro-Point – while Theragun Prime Plus only includes 4 attachments – Standard Ball, Dampener, Wedge, Heat.
More attachments give the PRO model more versatility in targeting different muscle groups and addressing various needs. For example, Thumb attachment is particularly useful for massaging trigger points.
The good news is that additional attachments can be purchased separately for the Prime Plus, though the variants may be limited compared to the PRO model. For now, the Supersoft attachment is not yet available for the Prime Plus. Only Thumb Plus, Micro Point Plus, and some additional therapy attachments – Cold and Vibrations – are available.
#3 Features

Theragun PRO (5th Gen)
Theragun PRO is currently the most powerful model in the Theragun lineup, offering a high 16 mm amplitude for deep tissue penetration and a powerful 60 lbs maximum stall force for intense massage.
While Theragun Prime Plus also boasts a high 16 mm amplitude, its motor is less powerful, delivering a maximum stall force of 40 lbs. It is still a capable massage gun that can provide deep tissue relief, but may not be as powerful as the Theragun PRO.
Both massage guns offer 5 built-in speeds, which can further be customized to anywhere between 1,750 to 2,400 PPM in the Therabody app. Therabody app also offers a vast library of guided routines, which displays step-by-step visualization of the massage along with the timer and auto-adjustment of settings when the device is connected to the app via Bluetooth.
Theragun PRO allows you to save routines from the app to the device, so you can quickly access your favorite massage presets without needing to connect to the app every time. There are also four visually-guided routines built into the device, which include Sleep, Warm Up, Recovery, and Theragun Break.
While Theragun Prime Plus lacks the ability to save routines directly on the device or to display guided routines, it comes with routine cards, which are physical cards containing illustrations and instructions for various massage routines. Routine cards allow you to follow the massage routines without needing to use the app.

Theragun Prime Plus
Theragun Prime Plus also has its own distinctive advantage with multi-therapy capabilities. When the Heated Percussive Plus Attachment is used, Theragun Prime Plus combines percussive massage with heat for a more therapeutic experience and faster results.
Other than heat therapy, Theragun Prime Plus also supports cold therapy and vibration therapy, which respectively can help reduce inflammation and treat sensitive joins. However, note that the cold and vibration attachments are sold separately, costing US$89 each.
One last distinctive feature of the Theragun Prime Plus is its travel lock, which prevents the device from turning on accidentally during transport. It can be activated by quickly pressing down the power button 3x, then the device will be locked until the power button is pressed 3x again to unlock it.
#4 Battery

Theragun PRO (5th Gen)
Theragun Prime Plus and Theragun PRO share the same battery life of 150 minutes, but the runtime may vary depending on the attachment.
Both are charged with the included USB-C charging cable, but Theragun PRO also supports the separately sold PRO Wireless Charging Stand, which is a more convenient and sophisticated charging solution.
Theragun Prime Plus vs PRO
Final Thoughts

Theragun Prime Plus
Theragun Prime Plus and Theragun PRO offer distinct advantages that cater to different user preferences and needs. While the Theragun PRO boasts a more premium design, advanced features, and greater power, the Theragun Prime Plus compensates with its lightweight, durable build, and versatile multi-therapy capabilities.
Ultimately, the choice between the two models will depend on your specific requirements, budget, and personal preferences. Factors such as the desired massage intensity, versatility, and ease of use should be carefully considered when deciding which Theragun device best suits your needs.
