Peace of Mind For Parents:
Ojoy Kids Smartwatch Phone

Safety is something we can never take for granted. As parents, we are always worried about our children’s safety - where they're at, whom they meet and how they're doing. Of course, I believe there is a fine line to being too overprotective and as a result, having to follow your child everywhere they go. Because by doing so, we may impede them from being independent. Hence, parents need to find a balance between holding on and letting go as their child grows up.

For children growing up and starting out to be independent as they enter Primary School, many parents have found kid smartwatch phones to be a handy gadget at helping them achieve this balance.

The Ojoy A1 in Blue.

With such a device, they are able to maintain communications with their child and also remotely track their child's location to ensure they are where they're supposed to be.

At Synced, we believe in the value of such a product and the problems it solves for both parents and kids and highly recommends it to our community of parents, which have grown to love the device.

Today, we like to share more about one of our products that fall into this category: the Ojoy A1 Kids Smart Watch Phone.

What’s all This Rave About?

The Ojoy A1.

If you’re one of those parents that understand the negative consequences of using a smartphone on your child’s development and well-being, you would be extremely reluctant to give them a mobile phone as you fear exposing them to the perils of the internet at such a young age.

As a result, you forgo the basic benefits of having a mobile phone such as it's used for communication and this can lead to worrying situations at times.

With the Ojoy A1, our parents can have back the peace of mind they've been searching for.

The Ojoy A1 kids smartwatch phone contains only very basic functions that are child-friendly and gives you back all the basic benefits of a smartphone that you have relinquished previously.

More importantly, you do not have to worry about your child abusing their Ojoy A1 as it runs on its own operating system that does not allow downloads for Facebook, Youtube, or any applications from the app store.

But that’s not all. Let us dive deeper into this product to understand why parents are so impressed by this little device.

Feature Focus

The Ojoy A1.

The Ojoy A1 kids smartwatch phone is available in either blue or purple colour and comes with a 1.4-inch (320 x 320 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection because we know kids can be quite rough sometimes.

The smartwatch is built with safe and non-hazardous materials that are soft on your child’s skin.

It is also IP68 waterproof, which in technical terms means that it can be submerged 2 metres deep in water for up to 30mins. Simply put, it is totally okay for your child to shower or go for a swim with the smartwatch.

The Ojoy A1 is touchscreen-enabled and comes with two manual buttons.

The power button is located on the right side of the smartwatch. On a full charge, which takes about 2-3 hours, the smartwatch will last up to 36 hours on normal usage.

The SOS button is located just below the power button. In distress, your child can activate the SOS function by holding down the button for more than 5 seconds. This will send out a call to everyone on your child’s family contact list to increase the probability of someone attending to your child’s distress.

1. Two-Way Communications

Two-Way Communications on the Ojoy A1.

The Ojoy A1 kids smartwatch phone is capable of both messaging and voice calls, and can even send personalised voice messages.

The text messaging uses data to function and exists within Ojoy's native application using their own chat system. You can send custom text messages to your child while they are able to send you preset text messages like "Okay", "I miss you" or "I love you". Easily send updates to you kid on last-minute changes or when you're reaching school to pick them up.

For voice calls, call minutes are required. Your child can easily talk to you through the smartwatch and hear you clearly on the speaker. Voice communications are great for conversations when needing to ask your child something or for anything urgent.

2. Real-Time Location Tracking

Location Tracking on the Ojoy A1.

The Ojoy A1 kids smartwatch phone is capable of tracking your child's location and will give you their real-time position in the companion application. It uses GPS positioning to get accurate and live updates on your child's whereabouts with an accuracy of up to a 5-metre radius.

Do note that the GPS accuracy will be affected in areas with high-rise buildings and as a result cause the location radius to increase. One expectation to have before buying the smartwatch is that the GPS accuracy is not as advanced as our mobile devices as the smartwatch runs on less powerful specs.

3. Contact Whitelist

Contact List on the Ojoy A1.

Your child's contact list will be controlled by you and only you can add new contacts through the companion app. This helps ensure that only verified contacts will be able to contact the child whereas all other contact numbers will be blocked when calling.

As the watch's messaging platform is native to Ojoy, only those with an account that is linked to the child's watch will be able to reach the child through messaging. All other numbers not in the contact whitelist will not be able to reach the child. This function gives parents the peace of mind knowing that no stranger will be able to prey on their child unbeknownst to them.

4. School Mode

School Mode on the Ojoy A1.

If you are concerned about your child being distracted by the smartwatch during class, you can easily activate the school mode function to kill off all functions on the smartwatch and to only tell time. It is advisable to only use this function when your child is in class or school, as they are in a safe environment.

The school mode function can be preset to repeat on any day of the week at an allocated time, so you can set it once and know that your child will be paying full attention in class at all times.

5. Use Globally

The Ojoy A1 kids smartwatch phone runs on a data SIM card to allow you to make calls and do continuous real-time location tracking. You can either insert a prepaid or postpaid SIM card into the smartwatch.

What this means is that you are not restricted to using the smartwatch from your country of origin only. When you are travelling with your child overseas, you will still be able to access the all the functions of the smartwatch as long as you insert a data SIM card that will work in the country you are visiting.

This is something parents absolutely love because safety becomes a greater concern when travelling overseas as it is an entirely new environment for your child. If they were to get lost, it would be far more difficult to navigate as the streets look entirely different and there may be language barriers.

6. No Games, No Internet. Zero Distractions.

Kido OS on the Ojoy A1.

You will love the fact that the smartwatch has zero access to the internet, keeping your child safe from whatever that may lurk online. There aren’t any games on the smartwatch as well but the developers have included an education feature called the “Magic School”.

In the “Magic School”, your child will be able to play interactive education games such as math quizzes that will test them on basic addition and subtraction questions to geometry-based questions.

7. Capture Precious Memories

The Ojoy A1 kids smartwatch phone also comes with a 2MP front-facing camera that will allow your child to take pictures and videos, which can then be sent via the messaging platform to you.

Though there is a camera in place, the video calling function is currently not enabled on the smartwatch as it has shown to drain the watch's battery very fast and damage the battery in the long-term.

How does the Ojoy A1 compare?

The Ojoy A1.

One word. Quality. Both in software and hardware.

The Ojoy A1 kids smartwatch phone runs on its own native operating system called Kido OS. It is an Android-based operating system that is designed specifically for children by Ojoy’s own in-house engineers.

It is what gives the smartwatch its child-friendly theme of cute little monsters. The user interface of the smartwatch makes it easy and intuitive for children to use, and they can easily pick up the entire functionality of the watch in one quick session.

That is the beauty of a well-built software. The plus point of building its own software gives Ojoy the ability to constantly fix bugs and issues, and consistently release updates with brand new features.

The Ojoy A1 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100, one of the best micro chipsets used in the smartwatch industry by top brands from all around the world. The Snapdragon Wear 2100 enables phenomenal performance in terms of speed, integrated sensor processing, and 4G LTE multi-mode connectivity.

Your child will have the best ease of use with no laggy screens. This is what puts the Ojoy A1 at the top of the kid smartwatch market as it delivers on both software functionality and hardware specifications.

The Ojoy A1.

Is The Ojoy A1 Worth It For That Extra Peace of Mind?

The Ojoy A1 kids smartwatch phone goes for $199 and sits on the higher end of the kid smartwatch phone market.

As parents, our children’s safety is beyond priceless. We would sacrifice anything and go to the ends of the world to ensure that nothing bad happens to them to cause harm.

The Ojoy A1 is no god’s device to save your child out of every unthinkable situation, but at least with it, you can be assured a greater peace of mind as your child grows up. As cliche as it is, it is truly better to be safe than sorry..

You can experience it first-hand in store at Synced by District.
