Tineco Floor One S5 vs S5 Steam

Tineco Floor One S5 series offers a variety of wet and dry vacuum cleaner options to meet different cleaning needs. The S5 Steam model adds steam cleaning capabilities, but what are the other less obvious advantages and disadvantages it may have over the standard S5 model? Let's take a closer look at the key differences between the two models.

Key Takeaways

#1 Price

While the standard Tineco Floor One S5 model retails at US$500, the S5 Steam is interestingly more affordable at US$450.

I initially thought that the S5 Steam model would be more expensive due to the added steam cleaning capabilities. Seeing that it doesn't makes me question whether the addition of the steam function may mean that some of the great features of the original S5 are compromised. We'll examine the tradeoffs in more detail in later sections.

However, being more affordable means the S5 Steam could be a more budget-friendly option for consumers who want the steam cleaning functionality without the higher price tag of the standard S5 model.

#2 Design

Both vacuums have a similar overall build and design, featuring a digital screen, two separate water tanks for clean and dirty water, a stick-shaped handle, and a roller brush for floor cleaning.

One most important design difference between the two is that while the Floor One S5 is cordless, the Floor One S5 Steam is corded. Cordless vacuums are easier to maneuver around the home without being tethered to a power outlet, so the S5 has an edge in that regard.

Tineco Floor One S5 also features a single-sided edge brush design. One side of its roller brush extends fully to the edge instead of being covered by the vacuum body, allowing it to clean as close as 0.39" (1 cm) to the edges and baseboards.

Meanwhile, the Floor One S5 Steam model does not have this edge-cleaning capability. Both sides of its roller brush are covered by the vacuum body, limiting its reach to the edges. This may require more manual cleanup along edges and baseboards.

Another difference between the Floor One S5 and the S5 Steam lies in the water tank capacity. While the S5 offers a 0.8 L clean water tank and a 0.72 L dirty water tank, the S5 Steam offers 0.75 L capacity for each clean and dirty water tank. However, a 30-50ml difference may not be that significant to consider for some.

#3 Features

Tineco Floor One S5 Steam

Tineco Floor One S5 Steam retains many of the original cleaning features that the standard Floor One S5 offers, including the iLoop Smart Sensor for auto-adjustment of cleaning settings depending on the level of dirt detected on the floor, self-cleaning function for the roller brush and pipes, Tineco's app connectivity for monitoring and reminders, as well as Voice Prompts for audio feedback and guidance during operation.

One capability that the S5 Steam adds over the standard S5 model is the ability to steam floors. The steaming mode is great for people who want to deep clean their floors. The hot water vapor helps to loosen and remove stubborn dirt and grime that regular wet cleaning may not be able to handle as effectively, and it claims to sanitize floors by killing bacteria, germs, and allergens, all without harsh chemicals.

Steaming capability also allows the S5 Steam to self-clean its roller brush and pipes with high-temperature steam, which should be more effective at removing built-up residue compared to the standard self-cleaning function of the S5 model that relies on unheated water washing and centrifugal drying.

However, Floor One S5 Steam lacks the Max mode that the standard S5 model offers. Max mode provides maximum suction power and water flow for more thorough cleaning than the default Auto mode, which auto-adjusts the cleaning settings based on the level of dirt detected.

Perhaps, the S5 Steam won't need the Max mode anyway, as its steam cleaning capabilities deep clean floors more effectively than the standard S5 model's wet and dry cleaning alone.

#4 Battery

Tineco Floor One S5

Tineco Floor One S5 is powered by a 4000 mAh battery, which lasts for around 35 minutes for Auto mode and 28 minutes for Max mode. It has quite a short battery life for whole-home cleaning, requiring frequent recharging between sessions. It can sometimes get annoying to have your cleaning interrupted due to a depleted battery.

Meanwhile, Tineco Floor One S5 Steam is corded, so its operation is not constrained by battery life and can operate continuously as long as it's plugged into a power outlet. The downside is that the corded design means it may be less convenient to maneuver around the home and to reach places further away from the power source.

Final Thoughts

Tineco Floor One S5 vs S5 Steam

Tineco Floor One S5 Steam

Tineco Floor One S5 can only wet and dry-clean floors, while the Tineco Floor One S5 Steam adds deep cleaning capabilities through its steam function, which can help remove stubborn dirt and sanitize floors without harsh chemicals. Steaming capability also allows it to self-clean its roller brush and pipes more effectively using hot steam, compared to the standard self-cleaning in the Floor One S5.

The potential drawbacks of the S5 Steam lie in its design, which features no edge cleaning capability and is corded. This means it can be less effective in cleaning edges and corners and also less convenient to maneuver around the home compared to the cordless, single-sided edge brush design of the Tineco Floor One S5. However, a corded design also means a constant power supply without battery life constraints, one potential advantage over the standard Tineco Floor One S5 with only a 35-minute runtime.
