Design

While both cameras are compact and lightweight to bring on adventures, the Brave 4 is smaller and lighter at 59 x 30 x 41 mm dimensions and 61.8 grams of weight. The Brave 7 LE is slightly larger at 65 x 43.7 x 27 mm dimensions and is twice heavier at 127 grams of weight.

Both models also feature two screens on the front and rear, but the Brave 7 LE's front screen is larger at 1.4 inches while the Brave 4's front screen is only 0.96 inches.

The rear screen size of both cams is the same at 2 inches, but it is touchscreen on the Brave 7 LE while the Brave 4's rear screen is not touch-enabled. Therefore, in terms of display, the Brave 7 LE has the full advantage.

Additionally, the Brave 7 LE boasts an IPX7 water-resistant rating. That means, without a housing, it can withstand water splashes, rain, snow, and submersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

The Brave 4 is not water-resistant out of the box. You have to use the included waterproof housing for underwater usage up to 40 meters, which the Brave 7 LE also comes with.

Video & Photo

Akaso Brave 4

The Akaso Brave 4 and Brave 7 LE have many common video and photo capabilities. They support video recording and photo capture with up to 4K/30 fps and 20 MP resolution, respectively. There are 4 angles to choose from: 170°, 140°, 110°, and 70°.

Other than standard photo and video, both action cams also offer various modes like burst photo, time lapse, loop recording, and driving mode that turns the camera into a dash cam. However, slow-motion mode is only present on the Brave 7 LE, and it is impressive with support for up to 240 fps frame rate at 720p resolution.

The Brave 7 LE also offers Auto Low Light in the settings, which seems to not be available on the Brave 4. When enabled, it automatically adjusts the camera settings based on lighting conditions for optimal low-light performance.

While both action cameras offer image stabilization features, the Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) 2.0 technology on the Brave 7 LE is more advanced than the EIS on the Brave 4. That results in smoother and more stable video footage.

One area where the Brave 4 takes the lead is zooming capability. The Brave 4 can zoom in 5x, while the Brave 7 can only zoom in 4x. However, these are digital zoom, not optical. Digital zoom simply crops and enlarges the image, sacrificing quality. The closer we zoom in, the poorer the image quality becomes. So, the Brave 4's higher zoom may not really be an advantage.

Audio

Equipped with a built-in microphone, both the Akaso Brave 4 and Brave 7 LE support audio recording while capturing video. The Brave 7 LE may delivers better audio quality because it has a built-in Wind Noise Reduction, which the Brave 4 lacks.

Wind Noise Reduction is a feature that helps minimize unwanted wind noise during outdoor recordings, resulting in clearer audio. It can be enabled and disabled in the settings depending on your needs.

But if you want an even better audio recording, you can use an external microphone with both action cameras via their respective USB port.

Features

Other than offering on-device controls, the Brave 4 and Brave 7 LE offer mobile app control and remote control. The mobile app, the Akaso Go app, allows you to control the camera, preview footage, and download media files wirelessly. The remote control only has basic video/photo capture functions, but it's convenient and comes included in the package.

One feature that the Brave 4 exclusively offers is Motion Detection. It sets the camera to automatically record a 30-second video when it detects motion, which can be useful for security or wildlife monitoring purposes.
