Akaso V50X vs V50 Pro: Are They That Different?

Updated February 2025

Akaso is known for its budget action cameras that offer great value for money. Among its V50 series, the V50X is the lowest-priced model, while the V50 Pro is the more premium option below the higher-end V50 Elite model.
In this article, we'll compare the Akaso V50X and V50 Pro, which are only US$20 apart in price, to see how much difference there is between them.
Key Takeaways
Akaso V50X and V50 Pro are not that different. The V50 Pro supports higher resolution slow-mo and adds extras like Auto Low Light and Wind Noise Reduction, but most of the features and specs are similar. The V50X even boasts a larger battery and higher waterproofing.

Design

Akaso V50 Pro
Both action cameras have a compact, rectangular body with slightly rounded corners and a 2-inch touchscreen display.
There are some minor design differences, like the power/mode button position, which is located on the front side of the V50X and on the top side of the V50 Pro. The V50X also has a textured finish on the front side while the V50 Pro is all sleek and smooth, but these differences matter a little.
What's a more consider-worthy difference is the waterproofing, with the V50X rated for up to 40m underwater while the V50 Pro can only go down to 30m underwater with the housing. It's funny how the V50X has a higher waterproofing rating than the supposedly more advanced V50 Pro model.
Fortunately enough, the waterproof housing is included with both models, along with other accessories and mounts like helmet mount, pole mount, lens cloth, and others.
Video & Photo

Akaso V50X
Akaso V50X and V50 Pro can equally record videos in 4K/30 fps and take photos up to 20 MP resolution. We can zoom to 4x and adjust the angle in 4 different steps, from narrow (70°), medium (110°), wide (140°), to super-wide (170°).
Both cameras also offer electronic image stabilization (EIS) with a 6-axis gyroscope, helping capture steady footage during action-packed activities.
The various modes offered by both cameras are also similar, from burst photo, time lapse, slow motion, fast motion, loop recording, and even driving mode that turns the camera into a dashcam that automatically starts recording when the car is turned on.
Slow motion on both cameras is supported up to 120fps, but the V50 Pro can record 120fps slow-motion videos at a higher 1080p resolution than the V50X at 720p resolution.
One feature that seems to be present only on the V50 Pro is Auto Low Light. It automatically adjusts the camera settings to provide better performance in low-light conditions, so you don't have to fiddle with it yourself.
Audio

Akaso V50 Pro
Both action cameras feature a built-in microphone to record audio while recording, but you can also connect an external mic for better audio quality. The difference is that the V50X uses a micro USB port for external mic connection, while the V50 Pro features a USB type-C port.
The V50 Pro offers an additional Wind Noise Reduction feature, which can help lower external noise and improve the audio quality when recording outdoors. The V50X, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have this feature.
Controls

Akaso V50X
Akaso V50X and V50 Pro equally offer three ways to control the camera. The first way is through the on-device buttons and touchscreen controls, the second is via the included wireless remote control, and the third is through the companion mobile app.
The remote control supports basic functions like starting/stopping recording and taking photos. What's great about it is that it can be worn on your wrist for easy access during activities, but it's not waterproof, so you shouldn't take it during water activities.
The companion app, the Akaso Go app, doesn't only offer remote control but also allows you to preview, playback, download, and share your captured videos and photos.
Battery

Akaso V50 Pro
Despite being the more expensive option, the V50 Pro is losing to the V50X when it comes to battery. This is because the V50X packs a larger battery capacity.
The Akaso V50X comes with two 1350 mAh batteries, while the V50 Pro comes with two 1100 mAh batteries.

Final Thoughts

Akaso V50X
While the V50 Pro boasts a few additional capabilities like 1080p/120fps slow motion, Auto Low Light, and Wind Noise Reduction, the V50X counters with a larger battery capacity and superior waterproofing. In other aspects like video quality, photo resolution, and overall functionality, the two action cameras are very similar.
Therefore, the higher price tag of the V50 Pro may not be justifiable for some users, especially if the added features are not critical for their needs.
