The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P and hohem iSteady M7 are both flagship gimbals from each brand, retailing at 149 USD and 299 USD respectively. With a considerable price gap between the two, what can you expect from each model? Which gimbal better suits your needs and budget?
Key Takeaways
The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P offers a compact, lightweight design with a built-in tripod and ActiveTrack 7.0, ideal for most users. The hohem iSteady M7, while bulkier, provides higher payload capacity, advanced on-device AI tracking, and remote control features, making it better suited for power users.

Design

hohem iSteady M7
One thing that some users consider unfortunate about the hohem iSteady M7 is its bulky design. The gimbal measures 327 x 122 x 118 mm or 335 x 57 x 159 mm when folded, which isn't a big shrink in dimensions.
It also measures quite heavily at around 629 grams, and it doesn't even yet include the weight of your phone and potential accessories you may carry, like a tripod.
If such a build is a big no for you, stop reading here and go with the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P right away, or consider other options like the Insta360 Flow 2 Pro.

DJI Osmo Mobile 7P
The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P is a more compact and lightweight option, measuring 288 x 107 x 96 mm and can be folded nicely into a more compact 190 x 95 x 46 mm form factor. It also weighs just 368 grams, almost half the weight of the hohem iSteady M7.
What's even better is that weight already includes the weight of a tripod, as the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P has a built-in tripod and built-in extension rod integrated into its design.
The hohem iSteady M7 only offers a built-in extension rod, yet it remains shorter at 193 mm compared to the 215 mm extension rod of the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P. The tripod also doesn't come built-in but is included as a separate accessory that can be attached, adding 118 grams of weight more to the overall setup.
However, the bulky design of the hohem iSteady M7 pays off in its increased weight capacity, supporting up to 500 grams payload compared to the 300 grams payload capacity of the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P. This makes the hohem iSteady M7 more suited for power users who want to add heavier accessories to their setup.
Controls

DJI Osmo Mobile 7P
Both gimbals have a similar control interface featuring common key controls like a joystick, mode button, shutter button, and trigger.
You'll notice one difference on the side though. The hohem iSteady M7 has a huge Side Roller while the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P has a more modestly sized Side Wheel.
But it's not just the size and name that differs – the hohem iSteady M7's Side Roller controls motor rotation, focus, and fill light, while DJI Osmo Mobile 7P's Side Wheel controls zoom, focus, and fill light.
Zoom adjustment for the hohem iSteady M7 is handled through the Zoom Lever located around the shutter button, but note that zoom adjustment only works in the hohem Joy app.
Another difference between the two gimbals is that each has a unique extra button that the other lacks. The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P has a switch button for switching between front/rear cameras, landscape/portrait modes, and photo/video modes. Meanwhile, the hohem iSteady M7 has an A-B button, which can be used to set a timelapse path with two points.

One clear advantage that the hohem iSteady M7 has is that the controls can be detached from the gimbal into a separate remote controller that makes adjustments easy from a distance. The remote even features a 1.4-inch full-color OLED touchscreen display, so you can still preview the footage while operating the controls remotely.
For the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P, the controls are built-in and there is no display, just a status panel that shows key information like current mode and battery level.
However, the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P offers an Apple Watch remote control, which is not supported on the hohem iSteady M7. If you have an Apple Watch, you can use it to control the gimbal's functions. But if you don't, then the hohem iSteady M7's remote control is perhaps more appealing.
Features

hohem iSteady M7
Both gimbals come with a tracking module, which attaches magnetically to the phone clamp and provides subject-tracking capability across any app. However, the subject tracking features provided by the two modules are different.
The hohem iSteady M7's AI tracker seems to be more advanced as it can track people, animals, and objects (like buildings, cars, and more), while DJI Osmo Mobile 7P's tracking module–which is called the Multifunctional Module–only tracks human subjects.
The AI tracking module of the hohem iSteady M7 also has an advantage with its RGB fill light. We can adjust the light color, brightness level, and color temperature. The Multifunctional Module that comes with the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P also has an integrated fill light, but it's not RGB, so the light settings are limited to brightness and color temperature.
Despite being inferior in subject tracking and lighting, the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P's Multifunctional Module offers audio reception capabilities with the DJI Mic Mini Transmitter, which the hohem's AI tracker lacks.

DJI Osmo Mobile 7P
DJI's Multifunctional Module also supports several gesture controls for a few functions, including start/stop tracking, start/stop recording, and adjust framing. Meanwhile, hohem's tracking module supports gesture control only to start/stop tracking.
It is also important to note while subject tracking on the hohem iSteady M7 always requires the AI tracking module, the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P can track subjects without needing the Multifunctional Module. This is because the DJI Mimo app offers in-app subject tracking capabilities known as ActiveTrack 7.0.
Subject tracking using ActiveTrack 7.0 is more advanced than what the Multifunctional Module provides. For example, it can track animals and objects beyond just people. However, you need to record using the DJI Mimo app to leverage the ActiveTrack 7.0, unlike the Multifunctional Module, which can work across any app.
Battery

hohem iSteady M7
The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P packs more battery than the hohem iSteady M7, which is 3350 mAh versus 3200 mAh. However, interestingly, the hohem iSteady M7 has a slightly longer battery life of up to 12 hours compared to the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P's 10 hours of runtime.
What gives the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P a slight edge is the faster charging time, taking only 2.5 hours to fully charge compared to the hohem iSteady M7's 3 hours.
Both gimbals can be used to charge a smartphone via the USB-C port, allowing for convenient on-the-go charging.

Final Thoughts

DJI Osmo Mobile 7P
While both gimbals are well-equipped for content creators and professionals, the hohem iSteady M7 seems to cater better to power users due to its bulky design, higher payload capacity, physical remote control, advanced on-device AI tracking, RGB lighting, and longer runtime.
Meanwhile, the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P is the better choice for those who prioritize a more compact and lightweight design, as well as the convenience of built-in features like a tripod and extension rod. In-app subject tracking with ActiveTrack 7.0 also gives the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P an edge, while Apple Watch Remote Control is an added bonus for those with an Apple Watch.
