Since its release in 2022, the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 has long been the go-to choice for smartphone gimbal enthusiasts. However, the recent launch of the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P has introduced a new contender in the market, offering enhanced features and capabilities than its predecessor. DJI Osmo Mobile 6
The DJI OM 6 and DJI OM 7P are both sleek and foldable with a similar control interface featuring a status panel, a joystick, a trigger, an M button, a record button, a switch button, and a side wheel.
While the side wheels on both gimbals equally support zoom and focus adjustment, the side wheel of the DJI OM 7P also supports fill light control. When the included Multifunctional Module is attached, holding the side wheel can turn on/off the fill light while rotating the wheel adjusts its brightness or color temperature.
Meanwhile, the side wheel of the DJI OM 6 doesn't support fill light control. You need to press the button directly on the fill light phone clamp accessory to turn it on/off and adjust its brightness and color temperature.
DJI Osmo Mobile 7P
The DJI OM 7P has another advantage with its Magnetic Phone Clamp 4, an improvement over the Magnetic Phone Clamp 3 that comes with the DJI OM 6. It provides a more secure attachment and can now support phones up to 300g, compared to the 290g payload limit of the previous generation phone clamp.
In numbers, the DJI OM 7P is slightly bigger and heavier than the DJI OM 6, but that's perhaps because it integrates a built-in tripod into its body aside from the built-in extension rod that the DJI OM 6 also offers.
The DJI OM 6 lacks a built-in tripod, but it instead comes with an attachable grip tripod. It may be less convenient as you need to carry the extra accessory, but it is more sturdy than the built-in tripod on the DJI OM 7P.
DJI said that the built-in tripod on the OM 7P is suitable for use on stable, level surfaces in windless environments. For more demanding applications, users are encouraged to purchase the attachable grip tripod for the DJI OM 7P.

While sharing basic features like Quick Launch, Gesture Control, Apple Watch Remote Control, ShotGuides, and AI-powered editing tools on the DJI Mimo app, the DJI OM 7P introduces a few new capabilities that the DJI OM 6 doesn't have.
First of all, the DJI OM 7P supports and includes a Multifunctional Module. It has a fill light for improved low-light performance and can connect to DJI Mic Mini for audio reception, but its most important feature is perhaps the on-device AI tracking.
Unlike the DJI OM 6, which requires you to use the DJI Mimo app to activate subject tracking, the DJI OM 7P with the Multifunctional Module can perform subject tracking without relying on the companion app. That means, you can use subject tracking across your phone's native camera app and third-party apps like TikTok, Instagram, Zoom, Google Meet, and more.

One downside is that tracking provided by the module is only supported for human subjects. For tracking pets and more reliable tracking in complex scenarios, we would still need to rely on the ActiveTrack subject tracking algorithms within the DJI Mimo app.
But even that, the DJI OM 7P still has the advantage with a newer subject-tracking technology, the ActiveTrack 7.0. It has improved tracking accuracy and reliability compared to the ActiveTrack 6.0 on the DJI OM 6, as well as newly supporting multiple subject detection and tracking.
Lastly, both gimbals have a different axis operation range and the DJI OM 7P seems to be outperforming the DJI OM 6 in tilt axis. Below is a detailed comparison of the mechanical range:
Pan: DJI OM 7P (331°) vs. DJI OM 6 (334°) → Almost the same.
Roll: DJI OM 7P (332°) vs. DJI OM 6 (332°) → Identical.

Battery

With its substantial 3350 mAh battery capacity, the DJI OM 7P significantly outperforms its predecessor's 1000 mAh power source. You can expect approximately 10 hours of operation time from the newer model, whereas the OM 6 provides 6.4 hours of use per charge.
The trade-off for this enhanced battery capacity comes in charging duration. While the OM 6 reaches full charge in roughly 1.4 hours, the OM 7P requires a longer charging period of about 2.5 hours to reach maximum capacity.
Another notable advancement in the DJI OM 7P is its ability to function as a power bank, enabling us to charge our smartphones directly from the gimbal—a feature absent in the OM 6 model.
