DJI Osmo Mobile 7 vs 7P: Just Small Differences?

Updated February 2025

Following the success of the Osmo Mobile 6, DJI has announced its latest gimbals for smartphones, the Osmo Mobile 7 Series. The new lineup introduces two distinct models catering to different user needs: the entry-level Osmo Mobile 7, retailing at a budget-friendly price of USD 89, and the more premium Osmo Mobile 7P, which retails at USD 149.
While sharing the same core DNA, these two gimbals have a few key differences that set them apart in terms of features and capabilities. Which one should you choose?
Key Takeaways
DJI OM 7P edges out the OM 7 with a built-in extension rod and a Side Wheel for zoom/focus control instead of just zoom control. DJI OM 7P also comes with a Multifunctional Module included while DJI OM 7 offers it separately. However, the total cost of the DJI OM 7 + Multifunctional Module is still lower than the DJI OM 7P, making it a better value option.

Design & Controls

DJI Osmo Mobile 7P
Despite sharing a similar quick-fold design, the DJI OM 7P is slightly longer and heavier because it houses a built-in 215 mm extension rod, which allows for greater reach and flexibility in capturing different perspectives.
The DJI OM 7 lacks an extension rod. It only offers a built-in tripod, which the OM 7P also provides. However, their tripod is only suitable for use on stable, level surfaces in windless conditions. For more challenging environments, a dedicated tripod would be recommended.
Another difference between the two gimbals is their control interface. The OM 7 has a Zoom Slider while the OM 7P has a more advanced Side Wheel. Zoom Slider simply allows for zoom adjustment, while the Side Wheel offers more precise control over zoom, focus, and even fill light brightness and color temperature.
Other control features like the joystick, trigger, and physical buttons are shared between the two models.
Features

DJI Osmo Mobile 7
The DJI OM 7 and DJI OM 7P share many similar features overall. ActiveTrack 7.0 is present in the DJI Mimo app, allowing both gimbals to provide reliable and smooth subject tracking. Multiple subject tracking and pet tracking are also supported.
They also offer Gesture Control for hands-free shooting, Quick Launch for instant gimbal activation, and support for Multifunctional Module.
The Multifunctional Module is a small accessory that can be attached to the gimbal to enhance its capabilities, including human subject tracking using a native camera app and other third-party apps, audio reception using a DJI Mic Mini, and an adjustable fill light.

The primary distinction between the two models is that the Multifunctional Module is included with the DJI OM 7P while the DJI OM 7 requires it to be purchased separately.
If you don't want to invest in the additional Multifunctional Module, the subject-tracking feature can only be used through the DJI Mimo app on the DJI OM 7. You also won't get the fill light and DJI Mic Mini support.
But if you're planning to purchase the Multifunctional Module with the DJI OM 7, then both gimbals have no differences in terms of features.
On top of that, the module costs USD 49, so the total cost of the DJI OM 7 with the Multifunctional Module would still be cheaper than the DJI OM 7P.
Battery

Both gimbals have no differences in terms of battery. They use the same 3350 mAh Li-Po 1S battery, which is rated for up to 10 hours of runtime and takes approximately 2.5 hours to fully charge.
The USB-C charging port also supports reverse charging, allowing you to charge your smartphone while using the gimbal.

Final Thoughts

DJI Osmo Mobile 7 vs 7P
After comparing both gimbals across 3 important aspects, we can conclude that the DJI OM 7 and DJI OM 7P only have 3 key differences:
1. The DJI OM 7P has a built-in 215 mm extension rod, while the DJI OM 7 does not.
2. The DJI OM 7P has a more advanced Side Wheel for zoom, focus, and lighting controls, while the DJI OM 7 has a basic Zoom Slider.
3. The Multifunctional Module is included with the DJI OM 7P, but needs to be purchased separately for the DJI OM 7.
If you're looking for a better value option, we recommend the DJI OM 7. Even if you purchase the Multifunctional Module separately, the total cost would still be lower than the DJI OM 7P.
Therefore, the only advantages the DJI OM 7P offers over the DJI OM 7 are the built-in extension rod and the more advanced Side Wheel control. These may be valued by professional videographers or those who require greater flexibility and precision in their gimbal control, but for most users, the DJI OM 7 will provide a more cost-effective solution without compromising on core functionality.
