In this review, we'll take a closer look at its technical specs, design, and features, so you can decide if it's the right switch for you.
TP-Link Kasa Smart WiFi Light Switch KS200
Affordable with Great Value
✓ Remote control, schedule, scene, away mode
✓ Works with Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri
✓ Does not support 3-way switch
✓ Does not require a hub
#1 Technical Specs
TP-Link Kasa KS200 Smart Switch
TP-Link Kasa KS200 is a single-pole switch that can handle up to 15A of current. It also supports a load of up to 600W for incandescent and 1/6 HP motor.
The smart switch requires a connection to 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz WiFi network to work. It also requires a neutral wire for installation, but it does not require a smart hub.
One limitation of this smart switch is that it only supports a single pole and not a 3-way switch configuration. This means, you can't have two different switches at different locations controlling the same lights, which will be useful for places like staircases, hallways, or rooms with multiple entrances.
#2 Design
TP-Link Kasa KS200 Smart Switch
Coming in white with a size of 5.06 x 3.33 x 1.41 inches, the TP-Link Kasa KS200 Smart WiFi Light Switch has a sleek and modern design that can blend in well with any home decor.
It has a standard wall plate size, so you don't have to worry about installation as it will fit in most standard wall boxes. It also comes with wire nuts for installation, and has been tested for safety with UL certification.
TP-Link Kasa KS200 is equipped with an LED Status Indicator that will light up when connected to power. This will allow you to find the switch easier in the darkness, but it can be a drawback for certain users who may find the indicator light to be very bright when trying to black out the room. In addition, the app doesn't have settings that will allow users to turn the LED light off, unlike the Aqara H1 Smart Wall Switch which comes with a feature that allows users to choose whether to turn off the LED Status Indicator completely or make it turn on only when the switch is on.
#3 Features
TP-Link Kasa KS200 Smart Switch
TP-Link Kasa KS200 Smart WiFi Light Switch supports compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri. This means, you can control the switch simply by using your voice, perfect for times when your hands are full or when entering a dark room.
Controlling the smart switch is also possible via the Kasa Smart app. Even when you're away from home, you can use to app to turn on and off the switch or to monitor your light status remotely and conveniently.
The Kasa Smart app also comes with a few of helpful features, including:
• Schedule and countdown timer. You will be able to turn on and off the switch at a specified time, or after a certain amount of time has passed.
• Away mode. This feature will automatically turn the switch on and off at random intervals to make it look like someone is home, which can help deter burglars. This is a great safety feature for those who travel frequently or who are away from home for extended periods of time.
• Grouping. You can group your smart switch with other Kasa Smart devices to control them all simultaneously with a single tap or command.
• Scene. You can set custom scenes to match any occasion like waking up or hosting a movie night. An example of a scene would be turning off all the lights in your living room and kitchen when you say "movie time" to Alexa.
Despite all the features, it is worth noting that the TP-Link Kasa KS200 has no dimming capability. If you need a smart switch that can also function as a dimmer, you might instead opt for the TP-Link Kasa KS220 Smart Dimmer Switch. With a slightly more expensive price, the KS220 version will also allow you to adjust the brightness level of your lights instead of only turning them on and off.
Final Thoughts
TP-Link Kasa KS200 Smart Switch
TP-Link Kasa KS200 Smart Switch may come with limitations but still offers great value at such an affordable price. The remote app control, voice control, away mode, and many other features provide convenience for those who want to make their home lighting smarter.
If you're on a budget and simply need a lowkey reliable smart switch instead of the more sophisticated ones, the TP-Link Kasa KS200 Smart Switch is definitely worth considering.
