Amazfit Balance vs GTR 4: Six Things That Make the Balance A Better Option

Updated January 2025
The Amazfit Balance was released in September 2023, a year after the GTR 4's debut in September 2022. They both share the same USD 199.99 price tag, though the GTR 4 may be found at a discounted price due to being an older model.
In this review, we'll compare both smartwatches and highlight the upgrades that the newer Balance introduces, so you can decide whether it is worth spending extra money on the newer model or sticking with the more affordable GTR 4.
Key Takeaways
Amazfit Balance has at least 6 advantages over the GTR 4, including an upgraded BioTracker 5.0 sensor, BIA sensor, temperature sensor, Triathlon and Multi-Sport modes, NFC, and a larger display with higher resolution. Balance's improved hardware and expanded sensor suite make it the more capable option compared to the GTR 4, despite the watches sharing the same $199.99 price tag.

Design & Display
Amazfit Balance
Both smartwatches feature a circular design with an aluminum alloy case and anti-glare glass bezel. However, the GTR 4 has a particularly more masculine appearance, with its sports car-inspired design available in black, grey, and brown color options.
Meanwhile, the Balance opts for a more casual, unisex aesthetic with its sleek Sunset Grey and Midnight variants. For women, I think Balance Sunset Grey is the most appealing choice, though it will also look great on any man who prefers a more elegant style instead of a sporty look.
While both watches share the same 46 x 46 x 10.6 mm dimensions and roughly similar weight, the Balance has a larger 1.5" AMOLED display compared to GTR 4's 1.43" AMOLED. This not only results in a bigger screen-to-body ratio for easier touch navigation but also a higher resolution for sharper visuals (480 x 480 pixels on the Balance vs 466 x 466 pixels on the GTR 4).
Health & Fitness Features
Amazfit GTR 4
The Amazfit Balance and GTR 4 share a range of health and fitness features, including automatic recognition for 8 types of sports and 25 types of strength exercises, PeakBeats post-workout analysis, live broadcast of sports data, PAI health assessment, sleep quality monitoring, and continuous monitoring of heart rate, blood oxygen, and stress levels.
However, the Amazfit Balance features the BioTracker 5.0 sensor, which is an upgrade to the BioTracker 4.0 sensor on the GTR 4, giving it more accurate health and fitness tracking capabilities.
In addition, the Balance is equipped with a temperature sensor and BIA sensor, which are not found on the GTR 4. Respectively, these sensors measure temperature and body composition, including body fat, skeletal muscle, bone mass, protein, BMI, and other key metrics.
Amazfit Balance also offers Triathlon and Multi-Sport modes that the GTR 4 lacks, but all the other 154 sports modes are the same between the two watches, including popular activities like running, cycling, swimming, skiing, hiking, and strength training.
More advanced features like Zepp Coach, readiness score, and HRV measurement were also originally exclusive to the Balance model, but the Zepp OS 3.5 update in August 2024 has brought these features to the GTR 4 as well.
Smartwatch Features
Amazfit Balance
The Amazfit Balance and GTR 4 are equipped with a built-in speaker and microphone, so they are equally capable of handling Bluetooth phone calls and voice commands using the built-in Alexa or Amazfit's own offline voice assistant.
They also feature Zepp Flow, an AI assistant powered by OpenAI GPT-4o that can understand natural language commands and help you with various tasks.
Other more common smartwatch features, such as phone notifications, music storage, phone music control, and the Zepp companion app are also supported on both models.
One advantage of the Balance is its NFC, which allows for Zepp Pay that lets you make contactless payments directly from your wrist. The list of supported banks and regions is currently limited though, so if your bank/region isn't supported, then the smartwatch features for both models are roughly the same.
Battery Life
Amazfit GTR 4
Both smartwatches pack a 475 mAh battery, which Amazfit claims can provide up to 14 days of typical usage or up to 7 days in heavy usage scenarios. They use the included magnetic charger to fully recharge in around 2 hours. With that same battery capacity and charging speed, the Amazfit Balance and GTR 4 offer comparable battery life performance.

Final Thoughts
Amazfit Balance
The Amazfit Balance offers several notable upgrades over the GTR 4, particularly in the health and fitness tracking department. With the more advanced BioTracker 5.0 sensor and the new BIA and temperature sensors, the Balance provides more accurate and comprehensive health data. Additionally, the Balance's Triathlon and Multi-Sport modes cater to the needs of more dedicated athletes.
Other smaller advantages of the Amazfit Balance include its larger display with higher resolution and the addition of NFC for Zepp Pay contactless payments.
While the GTR 4 has seen some feature parity through software updates, the Balance's newer hardware and expanded sensor suite make it the more capable option at the same price point.
