Cricut released the all-new Cricut Easypress 3 in its 2022 lineup of heat presses. The new Easypress 3 model looks almost identical on the surface to its predecessor - the Cricut Easypress 2.

1. App & Bluetooth
Cricut Easypress 2
The Cricut Easypress 2 is more manual in operation. You only have the option of using the built-in buttons on the device to control the temperature and timing of the heat press. Cricut does provide an online Heat Guide on their website to guide you on what temperature and timing to set for different materials. You will just have to manually set the option on your own into the Easypress 2. It still works great as a heat press, just not so automatic in nature.
The Cricut Easypress 3 does everything the Easypress 2 can do, just a little more with the convenience of a phone. This difference stems from the fact that the Easypress 3 has built-in Bluetooth connectivity while the Easypress 2 does not.

With Bluetooth, the Easypress 3 is compatible with the all-new ‘Cricut Heat’ mobile application. With the app, you can set the details of your craft project and it will automatically send instructions to the Easypress 3 for your temperature and timing settings.
If you’ve used the Easypress 2 before, you will understand how much of a hassle it can be to manually set the temperature and timing settings for each step in the heating process. This is all taken care for you with the Easypress 3 to make it a whole lot faster.
The app will also feature a visual walk-through guide to show you how to use the Easypress 3 at each step. Over time with familiarity, it does become second nature, but the application opens up new possibilities to guide on more complex processes in the future.
2. USB Port & Firmware Updates
Cricut Easypress 2
The Cricut Easypress 2 features a micro-USB port at the back of the device, near the power cord. This port is primarily used for firmware updates by Cricut, which has to be done manually by linking it up with your computer.
As for the Cricut Easypress 3, it also does have a micro-USB port built-in but firmware updates will be completed through the Cricut Heat app instead for convenience.
3. Colours

If you’re into colours, you’ll be sad to know that the Cricut Easypress 3 currently only comes in one colour, which is Mist (a blue-ish hue). On the other hand, the Cricut Easypress 2 is primarily available in 3 different colours — Mint, Raspberry and Rose.
So if colour is a huge dealbreaker for you and misty blue does not cut it with the Easypress 3, you can opt for the Easypress 2 and be spoilt with a range of colour options to suit your theme.

In essence, the Cricut Easypress 3 is a smarter version of the Cricut Easypress 2. It features App and Bluetooth compatibility to make your heat press process a lot smoother. The Cricut Heat app helps take out the guesswork by giving you a step-by-step guide and controlling the settings at each step automatically for you.
To answer the big question, we personally think the Cricut Easypress 3 is easily worth the additional investment. When it comes to heat pressing, one misstep can cost the entire project. With the convenience of the app, you can greatly reduce human error and ensure the best outcome for your craft projects.
