Fitbit launched its latest range of smartwatches in August 2022. The three models — Inspire, Sense & Versa — were given upgrades to their predecessors that were released about 2 years ago.

The Sense 2 is Fitbit’s all-new flagship model, but how does it really compare to the previous Sense model?

Let’s look at our Fitbit Sense 2 vs Fitbit Sense review to see if it's worth the upgrade for you.

1. Design

Off the bat, the Fitbit Sense 2 almost looks like a carbon copy of the original Sense. Both watches are similar in size, resolution and display, featuring a beautiful AMOLED screen. There are some minor changes to the Sense 2 but not exactly huge to make an impact.

The Fitbit Sense 2 comes with a slightly rounder edge and now features a physical button on the left of the watch side versus the haptic button found in the Sense, which sometimes may be unreliable.

2. Health & Wellness Features

The Fitbit Sense 2 is equipped with a new continuous electrodermal activity (cEDA) sensor to support better stress management with all-day body response tracking.

The watch will constantly monitor your stress levels in the background and let you know when you are experiencing high levels of stress. You can then actively respond to these stress signals with guided breathing, exercise & meditation to keep your levels in check and go about your day with greater control.

Other than that, most of the health and wellness features between the two smartwatches are rather similar and provide good overall functionality.

3. Smartwatch Functions

Though not released at launch, the Fitbit Sense 2 will feature new Google apps that include Google Wallet & Maps. This will be added via a firmware update in the future.

With Google Wallet, you will have the option to use this over the usual Fitbit Pay to seamlessly centralise your digital payment solution.

With Google Maps, you will be able to upgrade your navigation game with turn-by-turn directions on your wrist. Keep your eyes on the road without having to constantly check back on your phone to see if you’re going the right way.

Final Thoughts

The new Fitbit Sense 2 model feels more like a Sense 1.1 than a version 2. All in all, there are only some minor changes with the cEDA sensor, new sports profiles, and Google Wallet & Maps functionality.

Regardless of that, the Fitbit Sense line is still a great smartwatch to get with a comprehensive list of sensors and features to keep your health & fitness in check.

If you’re on the fence about upgrading, you might be better off sticking with your current Fitbit Sense and getting a little more value out of it for a couple more months or years to see if things change.

If you’re getting your first Fitbit Sense smartwatch, then we’ll recommend you to go with the Fitbit Sense 2 to be able to get all the features and future upgrades unless budget is a concern.
