Jabra Elite 5 vs Jabra Elite 7 Pro

With Jabra releasing their latest earbuds, the Elite 5, it begs the question for many users how the new model lines up with the rest of the range.

The Jabra Elite 5 is considered to be a mid-range model in the selection, compared to the top-of-the-range Elite 7 Pro and the budget Elite 3 model.

As a newer model to the market, how does the Elite 5 compare to 2021’s release of the Elite 7 Pro and which is a better bang for your buck?

Let's take a look in our Jabra Elite 5 vs Jabra Elite 7 Pro review.

The best combination of calls and active-noise cancellation.

1. Active Noise Cancellation

One new feature in the Jabra Elite 5 is the Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation. In essence, the earbuds feature a combination of inward-facing and outward-facing microphones to process and cancel noise from both inside and outside the ear. This helps create a more reliable noise cancellation experience across a wider range of sounds so that you can enjoy better calls and music.

Compare this to the Jabra Elite 7 Pro, which only features outward-facing microphones. So looking at ANC, you are getting better specs in the Elite 5 than the Elite 7 Pro.

However, when testing sound quality, the Jabra Elite 7 Pros do come out ahead of the Elite 5 and it makes sense seeing that the former is regarded as the top-of-the-range and the latter as mid-range.

2. Codec Support

Another plus point about the new Jabra Elite 5’s is that Codec support now also covers Qualcomm® aptX™ on top of the SBC & AAC found in the Jabra Elite 7 Pro.

Qualcomm® aptX™ audio is designed to improve Bluetooth sound quality in smartphones, speakers, headphones and tablets. Though this isn’t a huge plus point for Apple users whose devices work better with AAC, this feature benefits Android users more with enhanced Bluetooth sound quality.

If the Codec support for Qualcomm® aptX™ is a dealbreaker for you, then between the two models it’s a no-brainer which to go for.

3. MultiSensor Voice

One of the main features present in the Jabra Elite 7 Pros is the MultiSensor Voice™ technology, which is not included in the new Jabra Elite 5.

Jabra MultiSensor Voice™ combines 4 powerful microphones with an advanced Voice Pick Up (VPU) sensor to give you ultra-clear calls. It uses bone conduction technology to directly pick up vibrations in your jawbone and project them as your voice. Jabra’s uniquely advanced algorithms can then detect and cancel wind and other disruptive noise to transmit the clearest voice experience wherever you are.

If your schedule sees you making and taking lots of calls throughout the day, opting for the Jabra Elite 7 Pro will help reduce ambiguity in calls for the best conversation experience.

4. Software

Looking at the software aspect, Jabra’s Sound+ app is compatible with both the Jabra Elite 7 Pro & Elite 5 for greater sound customisability. That said, certain software features are unfortunately not available for the Elite 5’s.

With the Jabra Elite 5, you can only manage ANC, HearThrough and customise the equaliser, which is to adjust the decibels of each range to boost or cut the frequencies as you prefer.

The Elite 7 Pro lets you take customisation one step more with the MySound feature, which allows you to optimise your audio experience specifically to your unique hearing profile through a calibration test.

The Elite 7 Pro lets you go beyond the generic sound profile to cater to your personal taste, hence providing a better fit when compared to the Elite 5. Between personalised and generic, most would definitely opt for something that’s curated for them.

Final Thoughts

Despite the Jabra Elite 5 being a newer model, there is a reason why it is considered Jabra’s mid-range model, making it difficult to fairly compare it to the Jabra Elite 7 Pro. But when it comes to pricing, this is where it makes the Elite 5 an awkward middle child that might make your decision easier.

With the Jabra Elite 7 Pro being released last year, prices have come down. This makes the price difference between the two models to be almost minimal and at times the Elite 7 Pro is the lower-priced of the two. And if you were to ask anyone, it isn’t difficult to see which may be the better option.
